Dare I point out that Rhode Island does not touch Canada? So you expect people from RI to travel through Mass and New Hampshire just to get to the border?

Please, these people wont even drive 20 miles to go see a Patriots game.

But, pound for pound I'm sure there are more guns in Rhode Island than in all of Canada, thanks to the various "families" in the area.

British soldiers were responsible for burning the capital, and Canadians were gunned down and did not even get past Chalmette in the end.

i laugh when i see canadians brag about the war of 1812.

we had an entire class dedicated to these wars as a kid growing up there.

people fail to realize how important not allowing the brits to take new orleans was, it is the port of the Mississippi, the father of rivers. If you control the Mississippi, you can DIVIDE THIS COUNTRY. Had the brits took new orleans, this country would not be the same, or be here.

Negroes from lafitte and the swamps, the aid of the Baratarians, and regulatr men and women NOT OF UNIFORM defended that city with their life./

and we won.

this war was not won by soldiers, it was won by the people. they fought with sticks, their own guns, and even the negroes of the time used cannons to literally wipe out all the brits, over 3000 and few southerners died.

they walked into the trnenches of chalmette clueless, and they were gunned down, tired and exausted. report are the southerners almost felt asorry for them because in the end they had to clean the bodies up, and the war had been over for months. communication caused their death.

i grew up playing hide and seek on the battliefield above, oneoof the most defining things in my life i think.

the War of 1812, declared by the United States on Great Britain under President James Madison on 18 June 1812, is a source of pride to Canadians as many inhabitants, principally of Upper Canada, fought alongside the Regular British Army and Indian allies to thwart American plans to capture what were then the British colonies on their northern flank.

The war was primarily caused by the British Navy's boarding of American ships to forcibly enlist any sailors of British origin and its attempts to prevent the United States from trading with France. In addition, the Americans, who were encountering strong resistance from Indians in their push westward, believed that Great Britain was encouraging Indian opposition.

The United States planned to take over Upper Canada (the basis of modern-day Ontario) and Lower Canada (the basis of modern-day Québec) in a single mass attack. The invasion was to occur at four strategic locations: across from Detroit, in the Niagara area, at Kingston, and south of Montréal. If they succeeded, they would isolate and then capture the stronghold of Québec City, thereby cutting off any further British troop movement up the St Lawrence River and into the Great Lakes.

In October 1813, Lieutenant-Colonel Charles de Salaberry and 460 troops, mostly French- Canadian voltigeurs (light infantry), turned back 4000 American invaders along the Châteauguay River, south of Montréal. British regulars defeated a second American column at Crysler?s Farm, in eastern Ontario.

There was 4 seperate attacks on the border where the US troops tried to move in an invade (Uppercanada and Lower Canada) what is now Quebec and Ontario.

And after shutting down each of the US's 4 attempts we sent our soldiers south with the British Troops. The combination of BRIT and CAN troops made it as far south as Washington, where they lit the white house in flames.

Britian was under a "no occupation" of new territories order by there own government or Washington WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN GIVEN BACK.

Whether it can be admitted to or not, your ass was handed to you.



On another note...IF the US ever tried to invade Canada, it would be the last thing they did as a Super Power. the UN would not allow it and we'd have the whole world backing us.

I guess we're both on diferant aspects/parts of the war.

What most people dont realize is the Brit and CAN troops only attacked after war was declared on us, and after the US troops had tried to break threw the canadian lines. We were far from prepared but we fought off all the attempts of invasion. It was only after the First Invasion attacks that the troops followed south to extinguish all attempts to take over the canadian french and english settlements.


To me its fuckin scary how close we all came to being British..lol

So we both have something to be thankful for, and none of those men died in vain.
