i laugh when i see canadians brag about the war of 1812.
we had an entire class dedicated to these wars as a kid growing up there.
people fail to realize how important not allowing the brits to take new orleans was, it is the port of the Mississippi, the father of rivers. If you control the Mississippi, you can DIVIDE THIS COUNTRY. Had the brits took new orleans, this country would not be the same, or be here.

this war was not won by soldiers, it was won by the people. they fought with sticks, their own guns, and even the negroes of the time used cannons to literally wipe out all the brits, over 3000 and few southerners died.
they walked into the trnenches of chalmette clueless, and they were gunned down, tired and exausted. report are the southerners almost felt asorry for them because in the end they had to clean the bodies up, and the war had been over for months. communication caused their death.
i grew up playing hide and seek on the battliefield above, oneoof the most defining things in my life i think.
