Paysite Tutor Wanted :)

Hi I have thought about starting my own paysite, I have realised that its a much bigger project than I first thought, but im still very positive
I havent been able to find any good help material that fx. writes about the startup phase, content needs ect. But I thought I would give this board a try, im sure many of you guys can give me some tips.
Allmost all say that i should use IBILL or CCBILL as CC processors, but what about WNU or PSWBILLING.com are they no good?
I have seen that many large paysites have censored their tours, but it just looks weird, isnt it the idea to get the surfer as horny as possiple..in my oppinion its a turnoff to see those censored tour pics?

i really hope someone can help me out a little(huge) bit.

thanks

Jizar

Censoring is happening to bring them more in to line with possible legislation or enforcement in some areas where the blue laws are stronger. It all depends on who is reading the law when it comes to obscenity etc. And of course how good your attorney is if YOU are the one in court.

iBill and ccBill are just the industry leaders with a better (in most cases) track record.

Some others should have some things to say on this too.

I don't see the big fucking deal with censorship. Being in the UK, I've never done hardcore anyway, and have never needed to. I made nice enough money with softcore, and promoting softcore - hardcore doesn't even come into it.

I mean look at it. The best selling stuff for me is fetish - I'm talking Foot Fetish, Light Bondage, Face Sitting - and none of that has to be hardcore. Today I'm converting 1:39 on Fetish Cash with softcore pics and search engine traffic. It's easy money day after day, and I don't even have to touch hardcore.

Ok so censoring of the tourpages, is just something they do to prevent problems with the law, not to increase signups?
What about free trials, are they good/bad?
I would really like to hear more about the startup needs for a paysite, I once read a article and it said something with 150k$, but a good site should not be that expensive to start?!!

If I were you, I'd stay away from the free/cheap trial, you'll pay a lot less for bandwidth in the end, and get customers that are really interested in what you have long term. I guess the biggest question that I ask anyone that comes to me to host a paysite is: Do you have a niche or a reason for them to signup with you. If you want to start another teen/amateur site, don't do it, unless you are shooting the pics yourself, and they won't be anywhere else on the net. If your going for one of the niche markets, make sure you have enough content for at least 4 months with 2 to 3 updates a week at least or don't waste your time. I've seen too many paysites get rolling only to find they can't get enough new pics to keep the customers around longer than 30 days. The Rebills are where the money is at !!!!!!

If your buying content, do they let you use the pics for wide scale marketing. In other words can you give it out to other webmasters that are promoting your site.

Make sure and have your marketing kit ready before you say anything to anyone, free galleries, lots of different banners and text links for promo and such.

Make sure to figure in the cost of some live feeds, check out ynotmasters.com if you don't have them ready to go yet. I always call the companies offering video and picture plugins for your site and see if they will give a discount since the site is starting with 0 clients, many times they will give you a break for the first couple of months.

Sorry it is so long, maybe we should setup like a Friday night chat session where a group of us that host paysites can offer suggestions and help to those that are looking into starting one

Both pretty good niches, the smoking one you will want to get some video on. one of the paysites with us does teens, and has a live show each week and for some reason the guys go crazy for them to smoke? I myself don't get it, but if it pays the bills who cares

The smoking one might be a little hard to get content, so make sure and have all you need for the first few months! You might check out the plugins and ask them if any of them have any smoking pics or movies for filler. The Tranny you will have a little easier time finding content.

To get started on the billing I would go with ccbill or ibill. Each offer an affiliate program, and I think they each also offer a webmaster referral program on top of the affiliate part. You can also look at plugandpay.com they also offer those types of services, but you have to get your own merchant account, which if your credit is not on top of the world might be a little tough. When you use ccbill and ibill they take care of billing questions, leaving you to run the site, and the 15% they take is not that much higher than if you have your own merchant account when you take into account chargebacks($10 - $20 per chargeback), gateway fee(25 cents - $1 per transaction plus a $10 to $20 monthly fee, includes all tries even if they fail!), merchant account fee's(2.0% to 4.0% plus a $5 to $20 monthly fee), and someone to deal with billing questions($???).

As for the other guys out there, I've seen too many of them come and go to trust anyone other than ibill and ccbill. I lost a ton a money when DMR went out of business, and they were getting as big as ccbill and ibill almost So I say go with #1 or #2 and forget about the rest

Tim again, thanks for your great info maybe you know some boards more dedicated to paysites owners and wannabies like myself ;-)
Cam: I have read the article, it scared me a little, I know its expensive to start a paysite, but the numbers just sounds very high, But it was very interesting though.

Guys please keep posting, your comments are very usefull :-)

Tim did a really nice job of giving you the basics and I totally concur with not doing the trial's big bandwidth hog and not a big money maker. I also stay away from the extended membership, 90 days, etc. First you have to discount your 30 day price and I for one try to keep mine really low to be attractive and secondly, I've had to many people join for the extended stay and then do a charge back after they have had their fun. The group that I make the most money with and have the fewest problems are the standard membership.
