submitting delima
On another post about "gallery submissions" I recieved alot of email. So I thought I would bring it to the board for discussion.
I am sooooooo tired of gallery submitters who cheat after they have been listed. So I am thinking of going to password protected submissions. It is in real time. One of the problems i have is, i get waaaaaay too many submissions, so the link doesnt last long. If i go to this method of posting it is a win/win situation. Plus if i catch a cheater, with the push of a button ,, bam boom my problem is gone. What do you all think about this? ------------------ Hot Tropical Babes |

Doesn't your tgp software give you the ability to reject submissions based on email, posters refering ip, or site url ?? If not your should look into what it would take to make it do so. Tim |

it only will ban email and url's. However, the cheaters i have been plagued with lately change their email addy's and url's every submission. so if i go to the basic url,,, which is a free host sometimes..then that will ban the free host,,and i dont want to do that. But i will tell ya,,,and i have been in the biz a couple of years, this is the best tgp script I have ever used. The only thing I am trying to do now (with the script) is Catagories.
on another note, I love descriptions, I wish more of the non english speaking submitters would learn to do better descriptions, you wouldnt believe some of them i get!! down right LAME |

I only take email submision I have used scripts and I now find it easyer to do it buy Email I only post 50 per day thou, If you have a cheater you can just block the mail and I give a pass to some people just a word to put in the subject line witch make it easyer to spot them and I put them in first ,I now have my updates down to 1.5 hours a day but I look hard at sites I dont know.

see, me being a dumb fuck sometimes, i forget to put stuff on the page - like the damn sponsor ads - like a tracker code - the title of the page - basically i can only guarantee that i've got the damn pictures on - and i've mixed that up too a few times.
It really worries me how many times i've been blacklisted for going back and fixing a gallery, cos no-one damn tells you when they've done it. |

I have never banned anyone for going back and fixing something. I ban them for going back and adding redirects, popups, blind thumbs. I think my rules are pretty fair,, i have seen some tgp's going to 1 banner and two text links... i dont agree with that,,,,how the hell can you make a living doing that....but hey,, to each their own

First I would talk to the guys over at cgi works and see if they can't add IP blocking. Does the submit software give you the ip number of the submitter when they sign up ?? If so you can use .htaccess to block that ip from even being able to see your site. The thing to do is set your submit area behind a password protected area. Then post that username / password to let anyone in and submit. You can then go through and use this in your .htaccess to block IP's from getting in. Notice the first one is a single ip #, the second one is a full class C which should catch anyone that is coming in on a dialup connection ![]() AuthType Basic AuthName Members AuthUserFile "/path/.htpasswd." AuthGroupFile /dev/null <Limit GET POST> require valid-user deny from 200.31.48.11 deny from 215.2.4. </Limit> Tim |

Ya people I believe that something needs to be done about cheaters but you can't block their IPs because of the simple reason. Dialupers all have dynamic IPs!!! And as we all know there are almost half of them on the net. Only cable and dsl and other people hava static IPs. By blocking a surfer with a certain IP you can be sure the next time a surfer/customer will be using that same IP... That's how it is. Sad but nothing you can do about IPs... Well if you get cheated by the same IP everytime then it's one using a cable and your safe to block him without making any harm... but still when this person gets blocked by all his important TGPs he can just drop the account at that ISP and apply for a new one and get a fresh IP.... Sad but true...
So be careful when blocking IPs - you can easily block a surfer (if putting it in a .htaccess) or block a fair submitter which happened to get the same IP that cheater had the last time... My 2 cents ![]() ------------------ -- McSpike -- |

McSpike -
No browser/surfer would be blocked, because they have no need to go into the submit area, and the possibility of blocking a good webmaster when taking out a bad one is sooo small that it is worth the hassle of getting rid of the bad one. Maybe a cookie based option would work, where the next time they come to the site and you have set them for no submit it just takes their info, but never shows it to you as an option. That way they have no idea that they are blocked, they just get pissed cause they never get listed anymore ![]() ![]() Tim |

A good idea would be to have TGP software spider the pages submitted and ban cheaters also based on their affiliate codes.

Kind of a problem dealing with IP blocking no matter how they access. Cable goes down in alot of differnet parts of the country and they end up with a new IP 95% of the time. And alot of dialups customers have opted for static IPs as well. So spidering the aff codes or cookies etc would be ther better option

I'm with Bake on this one. My submit form is a javascript code that sends through the submitter's real email. I don't get a gazillion submissions and I know EXACTLY where the URL comes from.

There's only one solution and probably the best one.
The solution is simply. You run a script that surfs through all the links on your tgp every 10 minutes. If gallery gets changed in the slightest bit, the gallery link gets deleted right then. And on top of that, the info that came with that submission, the email address, ip, url, gets banned and added to your blacklist. Simple and effective. Now, they can bypass that if they ask you first to change something. But other then that, you do anything to that page, and the page is gone on the spot. I'm writing that script right now actually. Someone told me it's cruel. Fuck em...they should have read the rules. I can't wait to be done and add it to my sites. Won't have to worry about it anymore. Gee Mr Crutch, us poor imperfect submitters might screw up a gallery occasionally, ( See Kats first post in this thread, I'm far from perfect myself
![]() Your suggesting that we should, upon correction of the prob, then go though our submit list, emailing each to tell them that a fault has been corrected ? I for one would have a time/endurance problem with that. I don't believe I submit to you, one less honest submitter for you to worry about. ![]() ------------------ unlikely to be Y3K Compliant ------------------------- Are you trying to tell me that coconuts migrate ? |

Crutch, Let me know when you get that script. I would like one that told me if they added popups. I know people screw up from time to time ,, I do it. But I get alot of people adding popups.. which i dont want. And i know i'll get the argument of " Hey We gotta make money" but that is bull shit, If we all cant do it, then none of us will do it. Tgp owners are kind to allow our galleries, why shit where you eat so to speak.

Fredicus,
What i'm doing with my site on deleting links that change there galleries, is nothing new to most submitters. I'm not sure, but i think at thehun if you change a gallery, you have to let him know first..cause if not you get deleted automatically. I'm not doing anything new. Sure we all make mistakes...i have as well. I got my galleries deleted a few times in the past cause of this..when all i changed was a sponser. So i understand the frustration being an honest webmaster. ![]() But i also understand the bigger frustration on dealing with a cheating submitter. All tgps list the same rule...."don't change your gallery after you submitted." It's the number one biggest rule and it's that simple. Plus, the way i'm running my script, it's actually pretty friendly. So say you get deleted cause you made a minor change but you told me AFTER the fact. I can re-link you with just a click of a button since all the info is stored in mysql. It's not like you have to go submit again and then wait your turn to get listed. Hehe, if you had to go submit again and then wait another few days to get listed, now THAT would be cruel. ![]() I'm also trying to solve the problem that I faced a while back. My gallery got listed on a big tgp and i was checking out my link on their page to see what spot i got. Well, i looked at the link above mine to see who the competition was, and it turned out that the link was a cheater...sending hits to major pop up hell, etc. And on top of that, the tgp didn't delete that link for like 2 days!!! So you tell me, how much money did i lose? How many of those surfers got caught up in that pop up hell, and never even reached my gallery link? I know most submitters don't follow there links that closely....i just happen to catch it. So it benefits the submitters as well. You never have to worry about a cheating link taking away traffic from your gallary...as it did to mine. Personally, i prefer it this way than having to deal with submitters filling out some form to get a password. Takes to much time...and you have to wait. Plus, i never have to worry about my galleries. To be honest, I really don't understand the reason behind a password submission form. Maybe someone can explain? Cause if someone gets password...it can't stop someone from cheating...or can it? Cause they can still make changes to there galleries. How does this work and how is helping with cheaters?
