Bush administration wants to cut cancer from medicaid

Will probably brag about the $ saved helping the economy later without actually detailing where the $ came from...

It appears as if hes trying to cut down on the high price they are being charged for the drugs in the doctors office. I can "kind of" see what hes getting at. The problem is if he forces doctors to send patients to the hospital for these drugs thats just an unneeded aggravation.

My dad is undergoing chemo now and if he had to go to the hospital just to get the supporting drugs (anti-nausea etc.) it would be a burden.

I am sure there is other ways to deal with the high cost of the medications being charged to medicaid. Of course they prefer to just take the easy way out regardless of who they hurt.

Maybe because most people won't hear about it? All TV news is covering is the DNC... I just happened across that article while looking for something else.

Maybe when they get through setting up all the tax breaks for the rich and we've got Iraq spending down to just a few hundred billion they can get back to worrying about granny back home.

I have been listening to Air America all day. Do this, if you want your message get out, call Al Franken on his radio show. Or go to the Air America Blog and show the link there so they don't forget it

that is exactly what it is...do it when no one is looking and it will get pushed to the back of the papers....i almost bet he was hoping something like the michael moore interview would happen right as he did this, that way no one would ever notice.

"""The law called for tying reimbursements for chemotherapy drugs more closely to the price that doctors pay rather than the listed wholesale price. Doctors pay less than that price because drug companies give them substantial discounts.
While some doctors acknowledge they have been overpaid for the drugs""""

I'm thinking you should be gainfully employed before you bitch about giving a tax break to those who prop up your entire country.

Drug companies have massive lobbies in washington. More lobbyists than representatives.

And they dont want us to get drugs from Canada, because they arent labled "safe" by the US FDA. Oooooooooooo those nasty canadian drugs, lmao!

idiots, all of em.

Some drugs made for dogs are identical to those made for humans, but miraculously, a fraction of the cost. Gee wiz, wonder why. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Is it true that marijuana has the same or similar calming effect of the nausea as these injections spoken about in the article?
I seem to recall this being one of the prime pushes for the legalization of marijuana for medical use.

Marijuana does relieve nausea for chemotherapy and AIDS patients, among many other medical benefits.

I had a friend who used to be a pharm rep. It was amazing what her company wanted her to do. She had a budget (in the high high digits) to spend on her list of doctors in her area, in order to convince them to prescribe whatever drug she was pushing. Once they changed drugs to one that had more side effects and was less effective, but cheaper to make, so she had to try to convince doctors that it was better than the previous one! There is SO much money in that industry it's not funny.

Rounds of golf, catered lunches for the office staff and doctor, christmas presents, all just so the doctor will say, "Sure, leave some samples at the front desk. I'll order a larger amount next time you come."

So I'm thinking that this is what Bush is trying to end-around. It all depends on what kind of spin he gets for it.

As I'll be obeying the law, the DOJ will already know who I support.

There is some good news in this:

"Medicare said Monday that low-income elderly people won't have to declare wedding rings, burial insurance and certain other assets to determine whether they qualify to have their medicines paid for under the prescription drug program that begins in 2006."

How are they gonna cut cancer out and add obisity...

How is it that we can let our government give free money to people that are to lazy to do anything except eat and lay around, until they cant do anything. While cancer boy who lives in a bubble with his parents has to go work at McDonalds so he can get his radiation treatment two times a week. If Bush was even moderatly sain this would not even be an issue.

Fat people are good consumers, they put their welfare back into circulation, there's no upside you can use in number crunching for the state-of-the-union speeches in helping cancer patients.
