Need advice for next computer

My laptop is just not doing the job, i'm going to get a new computer but i'd like to hear some opinions from everyone.

What do you think?

Build it myself?.. Buy in the store?

I told myself i'll spend $5,000(including monitor).. but i'm sure i'll go higher if I can get a kickass pc

Let me hear your recommendations!

Show some style.

Check out the Sony vaio. I am on my second one, love the fact that I don't need adapters for transfering content from my camcorder or digital camera.

Buy it online from Dell - I get all my workstations and servers from there myself

You can make it yourself for cheaper but sometimes it not always a good option since you do get hardware conflicts and crap if you don't know what your doing.

What are you going to do with it?

Video editing - dual xeon or a G5 is the best.

Server - dual xeon all the way.

Laptop - I like me Vaio bunches, but make sure you get one with a good touchpad (they alternate between off brand and brand name).
