Dialers Scanned as Viruses now By McAfee and Norton.

The new updates on both Norton Antivirus and McAfee Anti-Virus Programs scan a certain niteline dialer as a virus..

The dialer is the Porn dialer one and it is now to be a virus..

This is going to be a problem

Ok heres the shit that is surrounding this..

1)Talk that some surfers are now debating their phone bills saying it dialed by itself, and McAfee and Norton are backing by giving documentation they need to show for any validity..

2) Rumors that a large site that used this Porn dialer attached the Virus "backdoor" to it, either himself or a hacker responsible. It was so widly distributed off his site, that the virus scan people had to catorgorize the dialer itslef for one dialer.

3) Rumors that this is a ploy to get rid of dialers, and is a thing to come lising most dialers as viruses to stop the growth of the industry.

I was talking to someone close to McCafee, and he told me that they were looking at the differences between porn dial and some others, and he said there was little.

When I asked does this mean it will be removed off the list of viruses he said "I didnt say that", when I asked if this means other dialers will be listed as Viruses, he said we will see in the next update..

Not good.. Not sure if this is an intentional attack on the dialer industry, or just a fuck up, but it is not good..

Why? He told me that if this is indeed classified as a virus, and if you distribute it, you can be held accountable.

Problems:

1)Webmasters may be accountable for distributing this "virus" if they have it on their site.

2) Surfers just have the validity they need to get phone bills reversed.

3) Surfers will have a hard time downloading dialers because they will be scaned as a virus, and will delete them before ever using them.

4) FCC is gunna get involved again if there is a valid suspision that these things are dialing by themselves.

5) You can bet some action is going to come from this, sit back and watch this, and get rid of your porn dialer dialer. Go with one that isnt considered a virus.. That is till the next update!

This link classifies the porn dial as a trojan virus and was updated on 4-17
http://vil.nai.com/VIL/recently-updated-viruses.asp

So this may be old news, but the update evolved its postion on the classification process as a trojan

That's BS. These anti virus companies are going to get sued by Niteline and the like. The FTC has been okay with the current dialers.

I'm sorry, but a bunch of anti virus companies aren't going to kill off dialers.

Also, are you sure Norton jumped on board? I thought it was only McAfee?

i posted a while ago about a dialer exe (goto) that i removed from a friends pc - it had installed itself about 6 times all over the file system - not including shortcuts.
I see no reason why it shouldn't be classed as a virus - it's one thing for a surfer to be stupid enough to download the exe, but completely different when a tech has to waste an hour searching for repeated self installed copies of the damn thing.

This is fucked-up. I've long thought that virus paranoia is a scam. Sure virii are out there and reasonably harmful, but the software companies would have you think that by turning your system on you're at risk.

Also anti-virus software is second only to games when it comes to sales.

Of course, I've been accused of being a conspiracy-theory nut.

Old dialers should be considered as a virus ... If you delete it, its re-installing on your desktop 5 mins later ... Its also going on startup . My friend were stocked with over 15 on his desktop since like one year lol ! When I saw this I found a patch on astalavista to remove them . Thats the only way . So why It shouldn't be considered as a virus ?

Average ejaculation time for a surfer is like 9 minutes... The bandwith would kill you....

Snow that makes no sense.

How would a DSL dialer kill your bandwidth? People with DSL and cable surf onto the members areas of paysites on a regular basis, and it didn't kill any paysites bandwidth.

Also, I'm not sure how a DSL dialer is supposed to actually dial. (I can see it done if the person had a modem in addition to DSL.)

why? I think shitty annoying pop-ups and the sites that use them are bringing the industry down. Not clean well put togehter sites promoting the dialer..

Most people wont surf pron because they are scared they will get stuck in a bombardment of popups they cant get out of, not of dialers..

Some Dialers which reinstall themselves everytime you kick it should be considered as viruses!! I know that some Dialers connect without the users permission (a friend of mine who was away for a weekend got a bill about 900 DM (~ 500 $)) His pc had to remain on for ripping DVDs to DivX. There surely was no one on the pc and so the dialer has to dialed up itself. Kick this silly shit -- they're like fuckin' viruses !!

Im wondering if the dialers that got replaced last night in that scare were the ones being scanned as viruses? I think they were.
