Las Vegas End of August

I'm heading to Vegas the last weekend of August for the Phil Collins concert on the 28th.

Looking for best suggestions on a hotel and restaurants and why. I've stayed at the Luxor and the Venetian before. Leaning toward the MGM Grand because that's where the concert is at.

MGM Grand is cool. There's a lot to do there...shows...and a mall full of stores under the hotel.

For lunch, they have a Rainforest Cafe that's fun to eat at. Animatronic animals, waterfalls, and jungle sounds.

You can check out the lions on your way there.

MGM is a nice solid middle of the road choice for place to stay in Vegas. It's relatively cheap and has something for everyone. It's also freaking huge which can be both good and bad.

My favorite hotel in Vegas all around is still Bellagio. Luxury and accomodations are on par with Venetian. It's on the high end in terms of price as well, but worth it. They are not child friendly, so no yard apes running around the pool or restaurants for the most part. There are two superb restaurants there, Prime for steaks and Picasso for Mediterranean. It's also center of the strip, so it's convenient if you like to explore other properties.

There are tons of great restaurants in Vegas. Without knowing a particular cuisine, I would highly recommend Delmonico at Venetian for steaks. It's owned by Emeril, and every meal I've had in there was world class.

PK,

The rooms at the MGM really suck. The best Vegas rooms are the Four Seasons by far. Unless you're getting the Presedential suites at the hotel/Casinos. ;)

The Hotel at Mandalay Bay is separate and secluded from the main hotel casino. It has a very artsy theme. I found it quite by accident, but you are still within easy reach of the Shark Reef and the Wave Pool and that is all you need to get your beach fix in Vegas

PK, MGM Grand is good. Place is big and confusing. They built it to amuse the Asians for some reason.

Well Im half Asian and I get fucking confused there.

But its a nice place. If ya wanna keep things simple since the concert is there MGM is good. But really now days transportation in Vegas on the strip is pretty easy so you are gunna be just fine no matter where you stay. Most the big name hotels there are nice and it really just comes down to personal preference.

We'll be over at the Aladdin. Never stayed there before but heard good things. Seems we are always over at Venetian, Tresure Island, and the Mirage during internext, and in the day Id get comped so well at those places we'd stay no where else. But now that my gambling days are over Ive not taken any comps and we are actually paying to stay at a place with the America West Vacations package deal thingy.

All the good hotels are on the list. Check it out.

Heard someone mention Mandlay Bay, thats also one of my favorites! The pool area is the best in Vegas next to the Hard Rock's Babe infested pool. Mandaly is very family Oriented and so is its pool. Nothing beats it. Especially if you have some young ones. Only drawy back is that its at the end of the strip on its own. To get around can seem a pain in the ass for some. But Mandlay, Luxor and Excalbur are all connected to eachother. And MGM is right across the street and connected via walk overpass to the Excalbur. So in theory they are all connected via walking distance so really any of the properties around the MGM would work.

If ya wanna stay close to the MGM, ya got New york New York across the streed connect by overpass walk way, same with Excalbur (i dont like that place) and connected to that is Luxor. (didnt really like that place either) connected to that is the Mandlay bay (love that place).. On the other side of the street form MGM is the Monte Carlo. Real nice place as well. Used to be one of the best places in town before they build the Beligio and Venitian.

Also down the street from the MGM is the Aladdin, good value there and its a nice place. Next door is the Paris, I heard its nice but it seems the place is all hotel and casino. No shopping or anything else really goin on. Across the street from that is the Beligio. Nice place. Used to get comped there when the MGM properties loved me. They own the Beligio. But truthfully id never pay to stay there. Its really expensive. And for what it is, i dont really find it worth it. Unless there is a killer deal. Make a point to go there after sundown to the Jazz bar that faces the fountain. Its great! No charge, just drinks there. Go there after ya put the kids to sleep. Its a nice place to cap an evening. Relally good entertainment and feel to the place. For got what its called, but its a Jazz bar in the Venitian facing the the watershow.

Also down the street ya got Mirage, TI, Venetian.

If you havent stayed at the Venitan before and can get a good rate do it. I know there are a lot of Venetian haters here on GFY but if its not internext time, and friends and family time the Venetian is a great place.

Damn, seems like im going on and on here.

The point being there are TONS of GREAT places to stay in Vegas.

It really just comes down to personal preference. As always Vegas is what you make of it.

I heard it was sold out.

But they are as always selling the tixs like crazy on the aftermarket with the brokers and such.

Seems the other casinos and the brokers picked em up fast. But from what I sence there is a shitload of toxs floating around on sale via 3rd party.

I even saw some on ebay.

I suggest Hard Rock. If you have money and want to have fun, I suggest the hard rock. Judging on the concert you're going to...I suggest the four queens downtown.

Hard Rock is good for that Younger single or party crowd. There are babes in the pool, and the nights there have the hot babes in the casino area and the place is very party like. Lots of eye candy there.

But the rooms are horrible. Almost like a motor lodge you could say. Sure there are some better rooms, but its not really a family kinda place. The wife and I love going there for the pool and such, but we are going with family this next trip so it wouldn be good. I can only assume PK is also going with her family.

Hard Rock is a good place to go to stay away from that Vegas feel, or when you are just tired of Vegas and want to relax. Its great to go stay there AFTER and internext, or when you just wanna get away from the usual Vegas stuff.

Is out on its own out there, so if you have a big family its not gunna be fun moving around...

If its just you and some girlfriends and you are into pools, drinking, hooking up and eye candy babes, the hardrock is for you. If you are going to do vegas, and have family and want a nice room and "Classy" facility the Hard Rock is not for you.

Again, it comes down to personal preference.

There are times when the HardRock is the only place in town I wanna stay at. And there are other times when I have no desire even to go there to visit.

ya gotta just askyourself what do you want to doin Vegas this trip. Vegas has everything for everyone.

I've checked with most of the majors..can't come up with a decent overthetop type room.. they're all booked for that weekend. Heck.. even called about the RainMan suite at Caesars. Not sure what else going on that weekend. I do have two mid-level suites reserved at the MGM in case I don't come up with something else.

I'm taking my 20 year old son and his 19 year old GF. My 17 year old and his best friend may come along...but he's claiming he'd be bored if he did. I'm not a big gambler (slots and roulette, primarily ..and each time I've ended up leaving with more $ than I arrived with).

We're planning arriving on a Friday morning, seeing David Copperfield one night, Phil Collins on Saturday and Celine Dion on Sunday.. leaving Monday afternoon. The two teens are interested in messing around at the Stratosphere, checking out Gameworks, some shopping, etc. Likely not going to be much pooltime and the like. I had thought the MGM would be good because it's the last stop on the new monorail.

With the kids going I don't want anyplace that comes across too ..hmm..snobby...ritzy..not sure how to explain it. More comfortable and laid back. If it were just me...or myself and another adult.. I'd opt for something different if it were available.

Ok..
Look into the MGM then.
If the Suites are sold then look to the Veneitan then.
Look at the Bella Suites.

Want to stay away from that snobby feel then stay away from the Beligio.

Its kinda older people there. Has the Snob feel if you will.

Venetian is pretty balanced attack. Also shops there that all ages like. And its classy yet not snobby.

Already did... for what they claimed to have available.. there was no high speed internet in the suites, they told me that it would be virtually impossible to get both suites or possibly a 3rd on the same floor let along next to each other, and they didn't like the fact that two people in one suite would be under 21. AND I'm not sleeping in the same room as my son and his GF.l

shit...
Sounds like Vegas really is getting packed.

Fuck.

Ok how bout Aladdin...

But the Suites there are kinda spendy.

You can always try the "resort room" there.
Its not a suite, but its an oversized regualr room. With a huge marble bathroom

hehe.. you don't know who to talk to. I've used them off and on for various things over the last 7 years. My usual girl is off on maternity leave right now, Jules, so I've been dealing with Mary. If you've called in recent months and gotten a female voice mail message, it's Jules who you're hearing.

Yep Bone, it's spendy, but if you want the satisfaction / game, you will pay like anything else

Btw, hope to see you and the mrs. at the dinner with Serge, Susan, etc on the 27th in Portland.

Hmmm.
When all else fails I always fall back on the MGM's properties.

That is, MGM, Mirage, or Tresure Island.

Not according to the reservation person I talked to or the website. Some may, but alot of them say "three dual line telephones and separate modem line"

Ok i have a real stupid question now.

Its about highspeed Internet in Hotels.

Ive never done it. Ive alsways just used dialeup and let my prograners run my sites when im on vacation.

So how do I do it? Do I need to buy some harware for my laptop, or do they give it to ya.

I was once at the Marriot in SanFran and they asked if I wanted highspeed and i said yeah. They gave me this bag of wires and shit. I was confused and and never tried to figure it out.

Can you exlplain to me how it works? They give you somethign at the front dest when you check in and you plug it into the wall and your pc right?

You use thier internet account? Or do i need to get my own before hand? They charge you per min?

Shit i feel like a newbie. I always do the dialup thing when i travel or the Business office option.
