What's better - Plasma or LCD ?
I'm looking to get about a 45" TV for my bedroom and I'm not sure whether to get a plasma or an LCD flat panel.
Whatever it is, I'm looking for the best for that size, something that'll last the longest with the best picture. Any recommendations? |

LCD's last longer, while the Plasma has a better picture (a deeper black).
I'd go plasma ![]() |

that's not true. plasma tv's are just EDTV (echanced) they're not true HDTV's. picture quality is not a good as HDTV, go to a store and compare, you'll see the difference. plus plasma doesn't last long, if you're not going to wall mount it, it's just a waste of money. make sure you actually go and see the tv before buying. a lot of screens like the sony brands have a glossy plastic screen cover that reflects a lot of light for the room. which can make view on angles bad. i recently purchased this tv from Best Buy 44" LCD HDTV screen. packed with features. ![]() |

Take if from my. I have several lcd/plasma rear projection.
Plasma is great and far cheaper. LCD only goes to 42" as far I know. They start at cost about $12K so forget it. My rear projecion 65" Pioneer outshines em all picture wise but its huge! Go plasma its the best all around for your money if you want a skinny boy.

I've got a massive 65" in the main room of my house... definitley want something sleek and thin and high quality for the bedroom.
Where else am I going to watch my porno? So the new generation Plasmas are the best? I'll have to read a couple consumer reviews. |

I just got a new LCD. With LCD you only have to replace the bulb every X amount of years. With Plasma it's much different.

in a previous life I was an Audio / Video technician, and we played a lot with plasmas.
The verdict is - if you're looking for a long life, good product, LCD is it. Plasmas WILL burn in, plasmas WILL die after a few years. First generation plasmas could only do a dodgy dark green instead of a true black; later generations are better, but not brilliant. LCDs are more expensive, however. Plasmas aren't cheap, either tho. I dropped one at work. Hence 'previous life' ;) |

Plasma is better, but LCD lasts longer. I'd go for LCD, plasma is still way too expensive

Haha I asked the same question LCD or Plasma. Then I found DLP. Do not get a plasma period, unless you really want to hang it on the wall or have very limited space. I'm pobably going with the sony LCD 70" b/c DLP only has limited mabufactures at this time.

I have a Sony LCD 60 inch, they last longer than 2 years - Also check out the DLP's pretty much the same price as the LCD with the same quality.

I love my 46" Plasma.
It is only EDTV not HDTV, but on an HD channel the quality is Crystal Clear! The only way to tell the difference between it and true HDTV is to put them next to eachother... If you are upgrading from a regular TV, Plasma is the way to go!

Plasma is cheaper, yes, and there is no disputing that it does over a period of 20,000 to 30,000, lose half it's brightness. With an average viewing time of 4 hours per day, that's almost 14 years! You have to figure there will be something better to replace it with by then. Go with the cheaper plasma!

LCD. Just bought a new top-end technology Panasonic LCD for my bedroom about 2 weeks ago. HDTV cable tech was ooing and ahhing over it when he installed the HDTV cable box.

Plasma will soon be the new Zip Drive or Betamax. LCD or DLP is where it's at.
