Something I suggest to every newbie who asks: Don't just jump in without any idea of what to do or how to do it. That's asking for disaster.

Read everything you can get your hands on, and not just the great articles and discussions you can find if you look, but also consider looking at some great mainstream marketing tactics. Learn, learn, learn.

Once you've read and absorbed as much as possible, start small. Don't just hot-foot it into a paysite; again, you're flirting with disaster. Try a few small free sites, learn to drive traffic to those and while you're at it, read and learn some more. Talk to some of the big names in the business, attend some shows and network, and you'll figure out what works and what doesn't much more cheaply than you would have had you started with a paysite.

Bottom line: Even the biggest successes were newbs once. Learn from them.

Traffic makes the world go around.

The best site or sponsor without traffic will make you Zero, while the worst site or sponsor with good traffic will make you little.

Find an honest sponsor. Find a good way to get traffic.

You can buy it or produce it, but you got to have it. It's the oxygen in this industry.

my free advice of the day:

1) decide what topic/niche you enjoy most

2) write down in some detail what you need to start a small paysite, bare bones and start aquiring those items

3) research where to find the best traffic for this niche/topic is and go get some

4) until your site is done, buy a few domains that are related to the topic you're into and build a few different sites/front ends going to a related sponsor's FPA/join page for now until you swap that shit out going to your own site...

5) go get more traffic, learn a lil SEO, buy some hits, do some traffic trades, etc....pump in the hits and keep working your site until it's done....don't worry about perfect, worry about WORKING and make it happen....

ok, that was way too much typing for me to be doing before the 1st pot of coffee is done....

PS: bottom line is having your own shit to sell with recurring and a bungload of hits, or just really fuggin qualified hits that work....either or both...

Traffic is the key bro, you need those visitors to your site(s) to get those dollars rolling so first thing i would do is get some traffic rolling. After that, filter your traffic the best way you can to make it profitable.

Really think about getting into this business.. It is a pain in the ass and usually 12 to 14 hours a day..

If you believe that ANYONE has built a mountian with a couple of hours a week, then dont even start in this business..

I am good at almost any web development and what I can't do I have others who will help me. What do I build? Niche frontends? Whole Niche Sites?Galleries? Linklists?

No, I don't believe that at all. I'm willing to work many hours a day. I don't have any illusions about the level of work required, but if I can make even $100 extra a month from home with very little startup cost (compared to a brick and mortar) I think that is great.

I'd reccomend reading/researching ALL you can before strting. I made the mistake of jumping in blind, and wasting a lot of money.

After your done that, start with galleries

I would not recomment starting a paysite if you are very new to this biz...
Get a good recurring sponsor, and start designing galleries and submitting them to every tgp you can find

Eventually, people will notice you if your galleries are good, and offer some partner accounts (or you may have to ask yourself).

Be persistant.
Money won't come rolling in the first week, or maybe not even the first month. Stay with it, and it will work out for you.

TheJimmy, I think you make some great points and offer some excellent advice. I have a program that I have near completion that is geared borderline adult/mainstream. I will hopefully begin promoting that site here in a few weeks once we are ready to unveil. I will have affiliate system set up with Verotel.

I want to have more irons in the fire though also. Something more organic like promoting sponsor sites via whatever methods ...

It really depends on how good of galleries you make if you go this way, and especially how good of a thumb you make.
You could submit to 100 thumb tgps, and only 1 or 2 of them will actually review your gallery, if the thumb isn't good.

i agree on what you said, but

1) he didn't say he want to make mad bling bling, just some extra money
2) to operate a paysite you get to have some general knowledge how this industry works, good business sense and motivation..and i am not sure if he has all ( or any ) of them -->see 1)

Only very few ppl start with paysite and very few of them succeed.....I have seen many paysites that totally suck and noone is promoting them and even their owner would earn more promoting a sponsor that his non converting paysite.

I don't own any paysites ( i got a big motivation problem

) but i think i would know how to run one...
But i think i got a good business sense, i got some experience in this industry in general and i've read really really a lot.

If he starts a paysite without knowing what's a tgp or simply understanding how things work ( how traffic can be generated, how different marketing techniques work ), he will probavbly lose all money.
