Man Sets Woman and Three Children on Fire

SEATTLE - A car crashed in flames after the gun-wielding driver doused his estranged girlfriend and three small children with gasoline and set them on fire early Wednesday, authorities said. All five people died.

Antigone Allen, 18, who recently filed an assault complaint against the man, survived for about nine hours at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle following the crash at an intersection near Bonney Lake, a small town east of Tacoma, Pierce County sheriff's Detective Ed Troyer said. She managed to tell investigators what happened before she died.

Around 1 a.m., a resident reported hearing a crash and seeing two adults completely on fire as they stumbled across the road.

Allen told police the man pulled the gun after he and the others got into the car, then doused them with gasoline and flicked a lighter to set them on fire as he drove, Troyer said.

At some point, the man fired a few shots at the woman, said Troyer, who didn't know whether the bullets hit her.

Firefighters found the bodies of the children in the back of the overturned car, which was severely burned. The 6-month-old boy, 1 1/2-year-old boy and 2 1/2-year-old girl were the children of either the man, the woman or both, Troyer said.

Troyer said the woman, who lived in Puyallup, filed an assault complaint in recent days, and a deputy was assigned to the case, but she failed to follow through.

"They were in the process of getting back together or breaking up, off and on," he said. The woman's relatives indicated there had been "some unreported domestic violence" before she made the complaint, Troyer said.

The 24-year-old man was pronounced dead on arrival at Harborview. At the scene, he was incoherent but Allen managed to give some preliminary information, authorities said.

Money is meaningless in the whole scheme of life. As a father these kinds of stories deeply affect my thoughts of the people we all share this world with. Its a scary fucking place.

you know this is why i hate girls who don't get away from the guys who abuse them...

if they are toooo stupid to get away from them and file the proper paper work then i believe they deserve what they get...i know that's mean but the cop even said she filed the complaint, didn't follow through, and was trying to get back together with him

as for the kids i do feel very sorry for them because they didn't get to pick thier parents and they didn't ask for what happend to them, but the girl on the other hand, frankly asked for by going back to him and thinking he would acctually change or something

Uhm, excuse me? NO ONE *deserves* to be set on fire...I don't care how messed up in the head this guy had her...she certainly did not *deserve* that. Shame on you! That is like saying "the woman deserved to be raped because she had on a low cut top" or a kid *deserves* to be shot because he wasn't nice to the kid that went postal. Place the blame where the blame belongs..don't blame the victim.

I can't understand how a woman could even have kids with someone who you know probably exhibited a dysfunctional personality on many occassions and they keep going back for more punishment and dsyfunction. Its sicko and the innocent kids pay the price getting burned alive. Fuck I can't get the image out of my mind of the pain these kids must have suffered being put on fire.

i don't think any woman "deserves" to be raped, and i don't think being mean to someone "deserves" getting you killed

but i do believe that if she's stupid enough to keep going back to that asshole time and time again even after she started to file a complaint against him she should have expected it to get her killed one day

and like i said i feel very sorry for the kids because they didn't deserve anything that happened to them....

Yes the innocent kids suffer but I think it is a lot more complicated than just her being stupid most of the time.

I think the women in these situations have such a low self esteem that they feel they will never find another man or be able to support themselves if they leave and that they deserve to be abused. There is also the "love is blind" angle.

The woman needs counselling to snap out of the "I am a loser" attitude as much as the man needs counselling to deal with the anger and violence he displays.
