Filipino hostage situation

The government says they are pulling their troops out.

The terrorists are threatening to behead the hostage if the government doesn't pull their troops out faster.

The government says it is moving as fast as it can.

The terrorists are still threatening to behead the hostage.

I am getting the impression that these radical Islamic extremists like to chop heads just for the hell of it.

Fucking bastards! I hope they all rot in Hell!

Earlier Monday, Al-Jazeera reported that the group said it had taken de la Cruz to the place where his "punishment" would be meted out.

"They offered him food and water," the network reported.

"The hostage asked that his corpse be handed to his government, and he asked for one more day to allow him the chance of sending one last message to his president. The [kidnappers'] statement continued that the Islamic Army did its best to prove to the world it did everything it could to keep the hostage alive."

Philippines is a sad country. 80 million people most are under the poverty line. 7 million (legally) reside outside the country (who knows how many more illegally).

The real tragedy is De La Cruz was just doing his job trying to feed his family back in the Philippines.

I have many Filipino friends who like to blame the government for the reason they are so poor. I have a feeling their poverty is due more to the local culture of "pakikisama" and "kurakot" Other countries are poorer (in terms of natural resources), Singapore and Japan come to mind. But those countries are light years away from the Philippines when it comes to economic development.

No wonder 99.9% of Filipinos want to leave the Philippines. I don't blame them one bit....

This is fucking insane! They are going to kill a human being simply because his government won't meet their demands FAST ENOUGH! How can they justify this evil act in the name of Allah?

I don't think these guys could ever justify what they do. It was never about race, religion, or anything else under the sun. It's just about hate.

One good question to ask them is if they've ever done anything to make their lives any better.

Militants holding a Filipino in Iraq have said they will release him on Tuesday, according to a diplomatic source in Baghdad.

The news came moments after the Philippine government said it would withdraw its 50-member humanitarian force from Iraq "as soon as possible" to save the life of Angelo de la Cruz, a 46-year-old father of eight.

The statement was made by the Philippines deputy foreign minister Rafael Seguis on the Arabic-language Al-Jazeera network.

but they will never release him..
i think Filipinos should think and see every angle...these are muslim rebels who know nothing but to kill innocent people...

Lame government. How can they comprimise a whole countries position because of one persons life? Hell, why don't we ban all cars on the road, because I guarantee you some people are going to die in them tommorow. Sad for this guy, but this is what you get when you work in a war zone and help an enemy. I wish him the best, but to pull a nations troops out over one guy is going a bit far.

Damn they are going to pull all 51 troops out.. Not a big show of force but this action will have a much larger impact on the terrorism within their own borders.

I have never agreed with the Iraq war, but for the Filipino govt to cave like this with their own terrorist issues at home, is quite surprising to say the least. They have their own issues with Muslims extremists at home and I'm sure this will only cause more attacks within their own borders.

the Philippines has been a US ally eversince and it seems the Bush administration isn't too happy about the recent withdrawal of the PH troops.

The 50-lead contingent of the PH are there only for medical and humanitarian , they are all non-combatant soldiers. i don't understandwhy the Iraqi terrorist see them as an enemy the fact that they are just mere helping in the aid of a better future for the entire Iraqi people.

Don't be so hard on them.

They were scheduled to leave in 30 days anyway. What is the big deal if they leave a month sooner?

The whole situation there is a cluster fuck and the sooner everyone gets the hell out of Dodge the better.

you are right! they just do what they think the best for themselves and to think that they can unite their country by slaying their considered enemies, not knowing that they act like a slaughter of innocent, feel the victory as the blood of their victim flow into their hands, one thing for sure, their soul will surely cast into the lake of fire

I'm just sick of all the USA bashing going on over on your side of the Atlantic. We saved your collective asses from Hitler 60 years ago. We are trying to save your asses from Osama Bin Laden and his demons right now. And all you can fucking do is bitch and moan and complain. You want to be ruled by the tabiban, be my fucking guest. Not great loss. The only worthwhile things that have come out of Europe in the last 50 years are beer and cheese.

You just won the prize of the biggest idiot on GFY.. and there is quite a bit of competition... LOL

BTW, I am the same side of the ocean, you didn't save my ass and I never been ruled by the Talibans...

(PS: Talibans are in Afghanistan, you know ... Bin Laden ... remember .... not in Iraq : you really are a veggie).

Demons ... My god you did get brain washed... even if it is a small wash ( for small non-functional brain ).

You will be sick of USA bashing for as long as you keep idiots at the helm of the ship .... and that you support blindly Israel.

Now, I'm am off to a Taliban Rock concert, with Demons as opening act...

Canadian! European! Whaqtever! It's basically the same fucking thing.

RE: Taliban. They're in Afghanistan now, but if the Jihadists win, there WILL BE a Taliban style government in power whereever they are in control.

BTW, the USA does not BLINDLY support Isreal. But an anti-semite like you wouldn't understand that.

only if you will see how the people of the Republic of the Philippine pleaded to the government to pull out the troops, if you'll be in the administration's shoe, i bet you guys will do the same thing...if you saw the hostage Angelo Dela Cruz beg for the President to pull out the troops..it was so heart breaking for most especially for his family & the father of eight little kids.

Filipinos are so proud of what the government's decision...nobody will help a filipino except his fellow filipino...the government did their very best to save a life, for me that's the most courageous deed ever done...im proud of my country...

i am a filipino....

well, in many angles i guess everybody should consider of their own country not just the individual....what if the withdrawal had resulted to a more serious situation....those are the possibilities everyone should think...BUT what President Arroyo did was a critical decision and i salute her for that.

The sooner people realize that Iraq is a lost cause and bring their citizens/soldiers home the better.

Getting more people killed is not going to make the situation any better.
