Does Anybody Care Anymore About The Olympics?

i'm reading about how they can't give away tickets to the Summer Olympics in Greece next month - alot of people are staying away because of the threat of terrorism but thinking about it - the Olympics ain't what they used to be, might be time to put the biggest most corrupt world event to sleep. When the Cold War ended so did most of the drama of the Olympics. There are no more bad guys to root against. If we could somehow get the ragheads to concentrate on something besides blowing up the world and camel fucking maybe they'd be good sporting adversaries.

When I was a kid the Olympics were huge, every Olympics there would be athletes who became household names - Olga Korbut, Nadia Comaneci, Mark Spitz, Bruce Jenner, Mary Lou Retton, Sugar Ray Leonard, that East German female swimmer with the 7 gold medals and the testicles - last few Olympics I barely remember anybody.

This would be a good time to get rid of them. Agreed?

I care about them. I like watching gymnastics and diving, but that's about it. I'm sad cause I'm going to be travelling in August when they'll be airing. And I think it's interesting because people from my high school class always end up in the Olympics each time, so I like seeing how successful my fellow classmates have become (compared to me).

I loved the 76 summer olympics. Gymnastics was amazing.

I haven't paid much attention to them since... Not even sure why.

Well, Europeans love the Olympics, I can tell you that, especially now that Greece won the EURO 2004 Cup for the first time.

If I were a terrorist, I would probably aim my cannons at Greece. I don't know anything about their "War on Terror" association though. Maby they'll be looked over

The reason USA residents are not interested in the Olympics is the shitty coverage provided by NBC...

I bet you right now we see more sychronized swimming than we will see REAL sports...

I was there.

I love the Olympics, and will be watching as much of it as possible this summer. If I could have gotten away for that long I would have gone to Greece to see them in person.

The athletes just want to compete, to be the best in the world. They don't give a shit about who's bombing who. It's one of the few events where countries can come and commiserate and compete with people from other countries, it's about fellowship and promotes harmony in the world. I for one always look forward to the games and hope they never die off.

No, I do not. I would love to see some more extreme sports, but I guess that's what the X-Games are for.

I'll watch some actual events if I happen to catch them either live on TV, or if I havent accidently seen the news of who wins if on tape delay.
Also with warnings to Americans not to bring flags to wave, it's kinda neutered by fear somewhat.
Get ready for plenty of Bob Costas though!

I hate the way NBC has handled the Olympics since they've had the contract. Very little live coverage, everything has to be edited MTV style..."The drama!!!"

I love the Olympics!! I'm stoked..to see Track/diving/rowing.

B-ball and the other sports that allow pro athletes can suck a d*ck though.

I bet equinox wouldn't mind

Anyways, Olympics are WAY more fascinating than F1 for example. Schumacher ruined it.

..although I won't be watching the olympics though.

They are a part of history that will remain there to remind us of the past greats. Everything moves in cycles *shrugs* maybe one day it will once again be the best sporting event on the planet.

I just hate the american coverage. Like Michael Johnson or whatever his name is being the fastest man in the world. haha. Donovan bailey won the 100m and all of the sudden its the 200m that's the fastest man in the world. Americans don't pay their respects when other countries win and thats why the Olympics are downhill in the states. All you hear about is how many gold medals the Americans have won, you dont hear about the other countries. Olympics is alive and well in other countries!

I guess I'm a typical American. I couldn't care less about other country's athletes. I also don't believe it's different in any other country. It's human to root on "your team".
