How to shrink a Head...
Beheading : The Shuar Warrior cut off his enemy's head with a lance as close to the shoulder as possible
Removal of the Skull : He cut a vewrtical slit at the back of the head and peeled skin from the skull. The eyes, lips and back of the neck were then sewn shut. Shrinking : He soaked and simmered the boneless head in a pot of hot chichipi plant juice for about 2 hours, reducing it to about one-third it's natural size. Drying and Hardening: He placeed hot rocks in the head cavity while he smoothed the face with a small stone to preserve it's natural proportions. He filled the cavity with hot sand when the head and neck became to small for stones to complete the drying process. Blackening: He suspended the head in the smoke fire all night. Polishing: He washed the hair and rubbed the skin with a cloth to make it shine The Trophy is now complete, the entire process requires 20 hours. Thanks to Elvis Manson and Bill for this absolutly wonderfull afternoon visiting this art dealer private collection. I never been facinated more then during those 2 hours.
