How to shrink a Head...
 

Beheading : The Shuar Warrior cut off his enemy's head with a lance as close to the shoulder as possible

Removal of the Skull : He cut a vewrtical slit at the back of the head and peeled skin from the skull. The eyes, lips and back of the neck were then sewn shut.

Shrinking : He soaked and simmered the boneless head in a pot of hot chichipi plant juice for about 2 hours, reducing it to about one-third it's natural size.

Drying and Hardening: He placeed hot rocks in the head cavity while he smoothed the face with a small stone to preserve it's natural proportions. He filled the cavity with hot sand when the head and neck became to small for stones to complete the drying process.

Blackening: He suspended the head in the smoke fire all night.

Polishing: He washed the hair and rubbed the skin with a cloth to make it shine


The Trophy is now complete, the entire process requires 20 hours.

That tour was 2 hours? Felt like 30 minutes. It was definitely fascinating seeing all the works in there.
