Do you know of many single girl sites which charge more than $19.99/mo? Lots of general niche sites do but I haven't seen too many single girl sites like that.

The reason I ask is because I run a few sites for models and charge $19.99. The sites do well but those surfers suck up the BW on the videos, as do the FUCKING hackers. I was thinking about raising the monthly rate to $24.99 to cover the rising cost of BW.

It's not the members that are the problem! It's the non-stop hacking that goes on. I have software that kills the passwords but they can suck a ton of BW in the 10 or so minutes they are working. Multiply that by 30 every fucking day and you can see that the expense in significant. Unfortunately, I don't have time to monitor the fucking password trading boards 24/7. I am a peaceful man, but I would be for the televised public executions of some of these cocksucking thieves.

I use Pennywise, which works well to kill stolen passwords. Unfortunately, it does very little to prevent them from getting stolen in the first place.

Strong box is good, but Proxy Pass is by far the best. You can set it to block passes coming from as low as 3 different locations. Its fast also... You will not be waiting 10 minutes while they suck your BW.

We have 8 solo sites and I know what you mean. Proxypass is the best on the market. We had Pennywise and it sucked ass.

And yes, if you have enough content 24.95 or 29.95 is not to much for a single girl site. If fact... we found they convert much better at the higher monthly rate.

As I said, the problem with pennywise is that is just isn't efective in stopping hackers from getting passwords in the first place. It DOES kill them quickly, which MINIMIZES the damage somewhat. However, they still eat up enough BW that I have to pay significant overages on my BW bill.

Also, it costs me time since I have to manually change all the stolen usernames and passwords and then send emails to members informing them of the changes. And, as you might expect, 2/3 of the email addresses of our members are bogus so some end up feeling like we ripped them off and they do chargebacks. If I could find something that actually worked, I would be a VERY happy boobmaster.

Anyone else have an opinion on the difference between strongbox and proxy pass? Strongbox has a one tinme only fee of $65.00 per site and proxy pass wants something like $50.00/mo, I assume per site. I'm NOT looking for the cheapest, believe me. This is one type of software I will not skimp on. I want the BEST.

Lots of single girl sites charge more than $19.99 per month. Personally I think anything more than that is a lot, yet lots of people will pay way more, so it's probably not an issue. And I like to promote sites that charge a lot, so that I get a bigger cut I just say charge a fair price for what you think your site is worth.

But yeah, if you get a better password protection in place (including using a form login), you won't have to worry about bandwidth theft/stolen passwords as much.

I left everything just as Ray set it up, and have not had one lick of trouble.

Sorry to say I know nothing of ProxyPass, but Strongbox does the job brilliantly for me.

The 50.00 is per server... not site. So if you are running 20 sites off one server.... you will be covered.

One thing I noticed about your post. You are saying that a 10 minute surge in BW is effecting your BW price each month. I really dont see how that could be, even if it was a 10 minute spike once a day. If it is, you really need to have a serious talk with your hosting company. Most all go my hour avarage so I 10 minute spike, once a day should not effect your overall bill... not much to speak of anyways. I just dont see it.

The hacking sites that are popular update at midnight est. Chances of you making the big sites every day are slim. We hit them once or twice a month.

BTW... there is a reason why proxypass is more then the others... it actually works everytime. They have great 24/7 support and they back their results. You can try the others, but you will end up and proxypass sooner or later.

Strongbox now has some new functionallity to even take
care of those first few people who log in pretty effectively.
Also the unique approach used by Strongbox is able
to more effectively stop the dictionary attacks that reveal
the passwords in the first place. You don't have to detect
that a password was compromiised if you can prevent
it from ever being compromised in the first place.
If you choose to use the Turing image with Strongbox
that pretty much eliminates brute force and dictionary attacks.
In fact most potential attackers will see the Turing image
and not even TRY the atttack. That's a very important
point because even an unsuccesful attack can put a serious
strain on your server, to the point where legitimate
customers cannot connect.

The other new techniques for stopping the initial
burst of bandwidth use and preventing password
compromise in the first place are brand new - Kevin
and the other happy Strongbox users who posted
don't have the very newest features.

Kevin suggested that I chime in here and comment
on the differences between Strongbox and the
old fashioned mod_auh Band-Aid "count the IPs"
scripts such as Pennnywize and ProxyPass.
As tempting as it may be to go off on a long rant
about the folly of trying to patch up the purposely
insecure mod_auth password system, I don't
like to "run down" other people's products in a
public forum. Unfortunately any detailed comparison
would, I'm afraid, end up being a discourse on
why the approach used to PennyWize and ProxyPass
is almost completely ineffective. By the way, if
you're reading this and thinking "it works pretty
well for me, it caught a compromised just yesterday",
than you measure effectiveness differently than
I do - I'd be thinking about the 12 passwords
it failed to catch rather than the 1 that it did.

What I can say about differences without feeling
like I'm talking shit about someone elses work
is that we built a system designed to be maximally
effective because our clients needed something
far more effective than the old fashioned approach.
We were willing to sacrifice a lot to achieve that
goal. In the end, we didn't have to sacrafice as much
as we thought we would, but we did have to
sacrifice ease of installation, so we have to install
it for you. On one point we also to sacrafice a bit
of portability to make a much more effective
solution - about 95% of web hosts can support
the settings that Strongbox needs, but 5% will not.
Proxypass may be able to run on more servers
(if it doesn't require non-standard modules),
but I decided to pay that small price to create
a FAR more effective solution.
