Anyone know a solution to this win xp problem
I restarted my machine now when I hit my user name on the menu screen so it can load windows it says "loading your personal pref." then it says logging off
I dont have the XP cd here. Also if I hit ctrl-alt-del at the main screen it asks for a user and pass and I never set one up (hitting ok or cancel doesnt help) Safe mode doesnt allow me to go pass this too. this happened all of a sudden no new software in my machine etc. Anyone any advice?

XP is pretty hard to get around the PW on the user name. You didn't set up a administrator PW when you originally installed XP? I think you have to to install it, that would be your best bet.

this happened to me two weeks ago - nothing i could do but take the machine in - it was a virus - somehow triggered when i was removing spyware i think.
hope u get out of it EB but i think you're going to have to get a pro to get back into that machine

Hi , you have a few options here ..
If there is a lot of software of high value i recommend to install a second harddisk..then install xp at this disk, after setting the rights ( if NTFS) copy all data to a save place and reformat the effected disk. don't copy the virus...:-) 2nd options is to use NTFSPRO to copy the SAM key file and run this with l0phtcrack to get the admin password. NTFSPRO can be installed at diskette and you get a DOS command prompt. then you go to WINDOWS/system32/repair were the SAM file will reside 3th . There is a cracking tool called something like "change NT password". it worked for me always at NT4 and W2K..so i think there is no differance for XP..anyway this prog. will launch Linux( With the 2nd and 3th option you still have to findout what causes this shutdown.... but can be found in the registry offcourse. 4th option .... just reinstall XP....if data is of no value to you. Tip : get in contact with a nice Computer freek, give him a bunch of milkyways and let him do the job. It is true ...all OS's require a Dr degree for computerenginering these days...it is sad..... ho ho ho.. this was my first posting for this board...how i did? Good luck Arabel

My personal favorite is ERD 2003
No meesing with hashes or any password guessing. It's a CD of which you can boot, and you get a nice GUI. One mouseclick with Locksmith's 'Reset Passwords' and you're done. |
