Firefox and Media Files

hey how do i add new file types to
Firefox - it comes with a bunch of media file types but mpeg isn't one of them.

also i've got the file types set to launch wmv files in Media Player but Firefox is downloading the whole effin file before playing it. any way to change that behaviour?

with IE movies dowload and begin to play in Media Player instantly almost depending on my connection speed.

thanks

just tried Opera and hit some links to mpegs - it takes me to a download manager type screen where u can see the
progress of the download - if u stop the download and double cllick on the file name it will open the mpeg up in Media Player. fuck that. worse is that when you're on this download manager page the navigation buttons to go back to the webpage where the link to the movie is don't work - both these browsers seem to suck hard when it comes to ease of use where media files are concerned.

IE is so easy - double click a link and the file plays automatically in the player be it Media Player or Real Player. Beauty is that if u have a fast connection it's like streaming - also after the file ends playing all u have to do is 'save media as' and it's saved to your hard drive.

both these browsers so far for me are unfriendly webmaster and porn surfer browsers.

Yeah I feel your pain here

Been trying Firefox for a day or two - seemed great at first, now I'm ready to drop it because of all the annoyances.

Reading your post about Opera doesn't make me too excited about trying that either

maybe i'm just not familiar enough with Opera but the way it handles movie files is annoying as hell. i have to go to a 'Transfer' window first before i can launch the movie in a player, then go up to the top of the browser to get back to the window where the webpage was with the link. i'm sure there are some shortcuts but jumping through hoops to play movie files ain't no fun. IE has that down. Bet the guys who run MGPs are still using IE, can't see checking out a hundred movie galleries with this bullshit.

just right click and "save target as..." to desktop then play it from there. less steps but I actualy prefer that it waits and downloads the whole thing if I don't touch anything after clicking the download link, that way I dont get chops and jumps in playback.

Yea - it's just something that we'll have to get used to if you use Firefox I guess. I jumped back on IE walla'go and after about 15 minutes I was back using Firefox. So many fucking popups - even my popup killer can't kill them all. Some of them have devised ways of getting around popup killers. But with Firefox - nothing get's thru

Everytime I open up Firefox I find more cool features. I think I'm gonna stick with it and if having to download a video completely before watching it is how I have to do it - it's a small price to pay really

I just looked at that problem and I found "options" at the download manager. There you can choose wether the manager appears on the screen while downloading or not.

I think Firefox has to offer some advantages, but there are some disadvantages too. IŽll test it a little bit.

Tried Firefox after the hype and went back to IE and Opera straight away.

Firefox sucked.
