Do you guys agree that as an employer you should always get the best man for the job?

Do you guys agree that as an employer you should always get the best man for the job? I know that I'm always recruiting and attempting to get top talent.

Why then would we have a president and leader of the free world who couldn't pass a high-school equivelent test? How could anyone think he is the best man for the job??

Sorry, I'm feeling political today.

best man for the job at the right price.

Now when talking about the president, they got the right man for the job at the right price...in other words those who are really in control paid a good price to have the man in the white house they could work like a fucking puppet...I just wonder who has their hand up his ass making him talk today.

Perhaps they felt pressure from equality groups to hire either a woman, someone from a visible minority or someone disabled/mentally challenged.

Guess which one of the 3 they chose.

You pick employees based on talent, skills, and intelligence.

Americans pick their president because of bribes... so they could buy a foot massager with their $300 tax refund.

My experience in the consulting biz, is that it is no longer a "hire the best talent" policy.

It is a hire, "hire the cheapest possible warm body, that can kinda, sorta, get something close to the job, done" policy.

I suppose that kinda describes Bush.

You tend to get people who are willing to work JUST hard enough not to get fired, and you pay them JUST enough so they dont quit.

Presidents of the US aren't picked by the top echelon of the country. They are voted in by every voter. If you were willing to allow every employee, down the maids and janitors, vote for employees, that would be comparing apples and apples

Just curious, Rick, since you're in a political mood ;) If you could put anyone in the White House (alive and would actually run for office), who would it be and why?

It is really hard to say. I don't see a gradual change in policy. More likely some kind of event, a disaster. And you can't predict those.

I don't think anyone has read Waterman and Peter's "In Search of Excellence" for a long time.

Bullshit. While there is a vote in the end you just don't up and decide you're going to run for president.

The guys who make it to the forefront on each side are guys that fit a set of criteria based upon their electability, etc.

Can you please refrain from saying anything negative about the President and do your civilian duty and just blindly support him.

Thanks for your understanding in this matter.

The problem is that Democracy and Capitalism can't function cohesively without democracy losing validity (by it's own definition).

Marx, as well as Adam Smith I believe, both predicated issues with that.

That's easy. It would be myself and I would abuse the living shit out of the position. The problem with Bush is that he's like putting one of us in office.

I feel sorry for any sitting President. While I'm sure they go into office with the best of intentions, once they get there they learn it's an uphill battle. Every time they try to do the "right thing" or what they believe is the right thing they get slammed from forty different directions.

Oh please. That's the life they chose and they are going down in history. I have to deal with all the stress of running my company but you don't hear me saying that I'd rather just answer the phones.

In all fairness I was living in Europe at the time and running a company there. I just didn't take the time to fill out the necessary ex-patriate forms in time for a mail in vote.
