DSL or Cable???

What do you guys think is faster. I am so tired of my DSL, it seems like it slows down at times, but my friends on cable download shit so fast.

Or is it I am just spoiled at the office on our T'3s.

I chose DSL because the cable in my area has upload/download limits per month that I wouldn't be able to stay within.

Plus I was just able to double my DSL up/down speed with Bellsouth for $5 more. They call it "Extreme DSL" or some crap.

I verified the speeds before and after using www.Toast.net. My speeds did double.

Depends on were you live. In The Netherlands is DSL the way to go. 8Mbit down, 2MBit up.

sorry, but it's a stupid question.
DSL and Cbale is only the media for your connection - nothing else.

There is not question, cable is faster . . . especially if you are lucky enough to have fiber optic cable going up and down your streets . . .glass over copper any day

In my area cable is the best option.. DSL costs about the same but is half the speed.

It does get a little slow some evenings, though..

1.5mbit DSL should be ok. Quality of either is also dependant on who your provider is linked up with further along the stream, their location/ infrastructure etc.

I think the speed of DSL has to do with your proximity to the main base, wherever that may be in your area. The closer you are, the better the speeds. Overall, cable is probably a better option.

There is an internet provider here in my building closet that I "tapped" into so I don't have to worry about it. DSL is usually faster depending on where your at more secure too.

On same output Cable seems to be faster, seems like download and upload do not share the same channel as in DSL.
You should go with the higher end cable connection though. I have a 4MB/512k here and it rocks.
And when "our surfers" are home downloading their porn it does not slow me down too much

I had cable then switched to dsl then switched back to cable. It seemed that after 5 mins of being online, dsl would fuck up and disconnect. It was a pain in the ass so I went back to good ol reliable cable.

I had cable and went 2 dsl about a year or so ago, cable was AT&T then, think it's comcast now.

I got the mid speed dsl and thought I'd go to the highest speed but find no reason 2, the mid speed is fast enough .

Never had dsl go down YET, my cable was down often, I had 2 have a dial-up as back up. Got rid of the dial-up.

Oh my dsl came with a back-up dial-up no extra charge, never had 2 use it though.

like dsl a lot better

Now for the Facts!!

Depends on where you live and the company you have selected or is available to you. Typically cable companies offer more bandwidth, but you may be sharing it with more people.

DSL should be more reliabe, esp SDSL. Typically it is easier to get static IPs from a DSL provider. The DSL speed you are offered depends on how far you are from the Central Office or a Remote Terminal.

Reliability of both is a local issue always! I've seen more router compatibility problems with cable in my area and the local telco (Southwestern Bell). They have become more reliable and responsive over time.

A year ago, the cable services sucked big time with respect to customer support. Now they are getting better too.

Business service which cost more results in quicker response to problems and better up time stats. Typically static IPs define you as a biz customer.

If you're serious about the biz, you need static IPs. Lets you create VPNs, use terminal services, name serve, and host if you had too (limited applications).

2.5 DSL...cause dsl is dedicated...cable slows down when more people are on the same line also I have heard of horror stories of hackers and viruses through cable.

If you have charter communications cable modem available to you they have a new service increase coming in the next six months with 5MBPS downstream and a 500kbps upstream for home users. Which would make it the fastest in the cable industry.

right now they are doing 3meg down/256k up and its blazing fast.
