Depends on where you live and the company you have selected or is available to you. Typically cable companies offer more bandwidth, but you may be sharing it with more people.
DSL should be more reliabe, esp SDSL. Typically it is easier to get static IPs from a DSL provider. The DSL speed you are offered depends on how far you are from the Central Office or a Remote Terminal.
Reliability of both is a local issue always! I've seen more router compatibility problems with cable in my area and the local telco (Southwestern Bell). They have become more reliable and responsive over time.
A year ago, the cable services sucked big time with respect to customer support. Now they are getting better too.
Business service which cost more results in quicker response to problems and better up time stats. Typically static IPs define you as a biz customer.
If you're serious about the biz, you need static IPs. Lets you create VPNs, use terminal services, name serve, and host if you had too (limited applications).
