the worst part of a diet for me is

remembering t odrink the water everyday. Even if I make it up the night before and stick it in the fridge there will be one day when I forget and then I stop drinking it. Why is dehydration so easy?

The hardest thing about a diet...

Not eating.

misconception. on a REAL diet you actually eat 5 / 6 meals instead of the standard 3.

lol...well I am happy being a BBW but I need to try to drop a few stone at first to kind of test a theory of my doctors. I have a condition that makes it very difficult to lose weight (an insulin thing) and they put me on some meds to see if playing with my insulin will help break that barrier.

I am not counting calories as such but on a weight watchers type program. Just sticking to the rules. I am okay with food. I have been on diets so many times as a child and teen (from when puberty kicked in....related to my condition) that I know I can't buy junk food because the temptation will be there. My will power has always been good enough just to not buy it. Just the fringe stuff like writing menus (and sticking to them) every week and the damn water.

Have you tried Atkins? http://www.atkins.com I've been on it a little over a week and starting to burn fat already, my dinner last night: Rib-eye steak with sauteed Asparagus and Bok Choy with a nice salad with carb-control Ranch dressing and a sugar-free Jello dessert. And yeah, lots of water

I always drink a lot of water. Kind of weirds me out when I see how little water other people drink. The worst part of a diet for me is the eating less thing.

yes and to a point I was okay with it (though I missed having whatever veggies I wanted) but my husband was expressly told by his doctor not to go on it. He is type two diabetic and cooking two meals isn't great for me.

The thing I am on now in the UK does have cutting down carbs as part of its plan.

the atkins program is a step in the right direction but it's not really, the right direction.

people don't need less carbs, they need less simple carbs, and more COMPLEX carbs.

your diet should equal approximately 40% carbs, 35% protein, 25% fats.

when I did Atkins a few years ago (before it took off as big as it is now) I actually found it pretty easy to give up pasta and bread. I did miss rice a bit but what I really missed was being able to just throw a mushroom into a recipe. I am a veggie lover. I can live without bread but not tons of veg.

Atkins is very dangerous form peopel with insulin / diabetic problems

I have the same problem as you - and not even when I am deiting (coz i never do)
but I just cant drink water.

Ever since I was a kid I couldnt drink water it made my Physically sick i'd just vomit it back up.
I have an allergy top the chloring and flouride in it.
I can;'t drink tap water at all.. I have to drink spring water or use a complex filtration system - so basically i don't bother

You know i don't think it''s so important that you actually drink plain old water - how about a nice herbal tea? (minus the sugar of course)

yeah, i often mix in some sugar free squash (as they call it in the UK..in the states I didn't even know that stuff exsisted..think crystal light but not really) to just lightly flavour the water. More a deal of actually remembering to drink it.

Just always have a bottle of water with you and make sure you drink X amount of bottles each day. If you need 6 bottles a day, drink one first thing when you wake up and right before bed. So now you have 6 left. Drink one for lunch and one for supper. Now you have 4 left. Drink one during excercise and one after.

Best of luck.

Cheers,
Matt

I HATE water.... and I can't remember it either girl. I'll walk around with it and still not drink it. I have been doing way better with it lately, but I know I still don't drink enough of it........

I probably have the only KIDS in the land that would rather have water to drink than anything, and my husband is the same way, but I hate it and I hate having to try and remember to drink it.

I drink a glass or two of juice everyday, but mostly it is tea and coffee, I don't even like cokes much... maybe once a week. I just hate drinking freaking water. LMAO

I gotta agree, the water is the hardest part. I even buy it in pretty bottles, or try new kinds to make it exciting and I still can't get motivated to drink it.

Just do what I am and go on the Krispy Kreme diet, i've lost 30pds so far.

seriously adkins works really well and for the most part is not difficult and its getting easier as more and more places have reduced carb meals.

seriously guys, the shortcut diets, the fad diets, ATKINS, all provide a temporary solution. a deficiency in ANYTHING (protein, CARBS, fats) is bad and in the end irregardless of how much weight you lose, you will be worse off if you were just to do it the right way.

that includes eating right, and exercising.

Years ago I went on the Adkins diet and lost 80 pounds. Since coming off ( 3 years ago) I have only gained 20 back.

However, I stayed on the induction portion( 20 carbs a day) for the entire time. I now have such an aversion to meat I have been a vegetarian for the past 2 1/2 years.

But, I was also diagnosed with Type II diabetes last year. I am on pills so far. I was told by my doctor, a diabetes specialist, that I should make carbs 50% of the calories I have a day. So, for instance if you are on a 1500 calorie a day plan, 750 calories should be carbs... that is 188 grams a day. After a year and a half at 20 grams a day it is extremely difficult to do 188.

Enough about me... This is how I drink all my water and more. I have a 1 liter bottle. I drink 3 of these a day at my desk. If I put it in 1 container it would be overwhelming... try smaller bottles. Also, there are those fruit flavored waters with zero calories and zero carbs it help cut the plain water taste.

My friend is diabetic and her Dr. put her on something called the 6 day diet. It's 6 days on, with low carb meals- example- an egg and a slice of toast , or cottage cheese and half a grapefruit, and then one day a week is her free day.
She's lost alot of weight and was actually able to cut out the pill she normally took 15 min before eating (not sure of the name of it, sorry).
I wish I knew more about it, you should look into it though- because it really worked, started off slow, but then she looked as if she lost 3-5 lbs a week.

Drinking water is probably the hardest part of a diet. Last year I wanted to lose some weight so I went on the Atkins diet and followed induction and the water was the hardest thing to do. I lost the weight I wanted and just said no processed foods and eat all the veggies I love plus fruit now (not really a meat lover). The only reason I keep up with the water is that I notice drinking water 64 oz + makes my skin looks better and I haven?t gained the weight back eating what I want.

I drink it plain now, but for a while, I froze blueberries and strawberries and pretended that they were ice cubes.

Doesn't sound like you know too much about Atkins, it's not a diet, it really is changing the way you eat FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE and it includes (at least for me) daily exercise and the only thing I needed to cut out of my diet is sugar, bread, pasta and most of the junk in processed foods. I buy all my meals as raw produce or meat and cook everything myself, work out every day at least 30 minutes.

Also vegetables and some fruit contains all the carbohydrates you need, most of the crap food we eat today was not even around 100 years ago, and you wonder why so many people are obese, diabetic and die of heart-attacks.

Oh yeah, and drink plenty water

that is all correct, i haven't really done much research on atkins, but the fundamental rule is that you shouldn't go any less than 40% carbs in your diet. and protein anywhere from 30 to 40%, and fats 20 to 30%.

if atkins has carbs around 40% then i have no problem with it.

I changed my drinking habits. I have a 30 oz cup that I used to drink tea with sugar in three times a day. I cut out the tea and sugar and just fill the cup 2 1/2 times a day. I have traded breakfast food and pop tarts for an apple or other fruit. I have a cup of lettuce at lunch and supper along with a type of meat (usually turkey or fish). I also started excercising for 30 mintues (toe touchers, sit ups, etc.) and walking around 2-3 blocks 2 times a day. I lost 20 lbs in 4 weeks. I still need to lose at least another 20-30 lbs.

My biggest problem is trying not eat large portions and eating the right kinds of food especially around the holidays. Celebrating the 4th of July is going to suck without hamburgers and hotdogs.

I am Type 2 and low-carbing (Atkins) has brought me under control with NO meds, not to mention a hefty weight loss. My last 3 hba1c's were 5.6 (6.0 and under is considered normal). I started with an hba1c of 9.7. My endo is hardcore pro-Atkins. Did your husbands doctor give a reason?

I have the same problem as you - and not even when I am deiting (coz i never do)
but I just cant drink water.

Ever since I was a kid I couldnt drink water it made my Physically sick i'd just vomit it back up.
I have an allergy top the chloring and flouride in it.
I can;'t drink tap water at all.. I have to drink spring water or use a complex filtration system - so basically i don't bother

You know i don't think it''s so important that you actually drink plain old water - how about a nice herbal tea? (minus the sugar of course)
Not true. Even Type 1 diabetics benefit from restricting carbohydrates, when Atkins is followed properly, responsibly, and under a doctors care. Carbs=Glucose.
