Only idiots that think they have brains and first year poli-sci drop outs throw their vote away on protest votes.

Fucking moron.

Its wonderful if you are a large corporation selling products outside the country, But if you sell your product in Canada, you have to tack on 7% to the selling price. On top of that, you pay your accountant, garbage collector and every other service company you use an extra 7%. You arent exempt from anything.

The exception is your lawyer. Mulroney was a lawyer as are a lot of conservitive candidates. I always found it interesting they made a special clause that stated lawyers dont have to charge GST.

Exactly, a lot of people remember them as Thatcherist wannabees...A conservative government would be just as corrupt and drunk as the Liberals and on top of it they would ignore the voice of the people and have us in Iraq.

I get a refund every year from every product or service I pay GST on, whether it was accountanting services, computers, software, even gas on my car. And seeing that I was recently fully audited they accepted my GST claims. In fact, they found I made an error and forgot to claim the GST on the base price of my car so I got an additional $1500 or so back. I have never paid GST for any product or service I bought in Canada in over 6 years.

L0stMind 06-28-2004 11:30 PM

why do people hate the liberals? at least they can balance the budget...

I'm a bit young, but all I remember of conservatives in power is GST.

Harper scares me - yet I like him a bit because he is charismatic in a way. Would be nice to see Canada with a leader we arent ashamed to show in public.

But oh well.

Politics isn't about how someone looks.

If you follow politics objectively and thoroughly you will see that Harper and his Alliance have some Extreme right wing views. They would be willing to turn back the progress we as a society have made. There are so many things that are wrong with Harpers(Reform party) that I don't know where to begin.

While the Liberals are no saints(just like every other party) they are the obvoiuse Canadian choice.

More than a decade ago the Conservative party held the majority in Canada's Parliament. The Conservative government and its Conservative Prime Minister (Mulroney) so angered the Canadian public with the Goods and Services Tax and NAFTA that after a national election it lacked the required seats to even be legally considered a political party.

They were quite literally obliterated.

This sparked the splitting off of the part to form "the Stockwell Day party"..... After another election and realizing that the right was too divided to be of any effective opponent for the strong and popular liberals they re-united.

However, to this day the PC party is but a minor player in national politics, and are only now, by last night's election results, recouping their losses and getting back on track.

L0stMind 06-28-2004 11:50 PM

I agree - politics isnt about looks. Its about policies. I still remember reading the liberal website with the red book or whatever and their plans...

which never really came thru somehow.

And I do agree, liberals are the only real choice - but I think that simply from economic standpoint... I dont think we need a bajillion daycare centers. Why? It doesn't make sense to me.

Harper scares me. He is charismatic, so he is garnering a lot of support. but he views are so off kilter compared to mine...

Yes, If it goes into a product or service you are collecting GST on, you get it back. If you can run everything including your car through your business, more power to you. Most Canadians just get it up the ass.

I've come to the conclusion that people don't get rich, companies do (and their shareholders). I'm just adapting to what the system has in place.

Ofcourse you'll hear the opposition say as often as they can that the liberal party is corrupted which is completely dishonest... unfortunately... some "sheep" as you put it.. dont know much about politics, will not try to find out more about the subject ... and will form their opinion based on what they've heard and what "sounded" right...

:2 cents:

I would be curious to see what do YOU actually know about the events and what makes you believe that high ranked people of the government did not know about it..?
If they Knew about it they are in collusion, if NOT which I doubt, they are incompetent, and should be made accountable.

Obviously you formed your opinion on "what sounded right" to you:2 cents:

Hey JFK I was kidding about the meds thing :-)

I think it worked out good. A Minority will keep the Government in check. I'm looking forward to see what happens next.

sherie 06-29-2004 07:38 AM

Well, I for one was not going to give power to the Conservative pricks, not on your life.

Anyone that wants to lay in bed with Bush doesn't deserve my vote! They have a religious agenda, they hate the gays, they want to privatize health care, anti-abortion, pro war, pro American/Bush and that is bloody terrifying!

Paul Martin and the sponsorship scandal should have been enough for any Canadian to see that he is a crook. He is not a strong leader and that is scary.

And let me just tell you that I voted for neither the Liberals nor the Conservatives, the best we could have hoped for was a minority government.

At least the Canadians are speaking out, no more Majority governments.

And to those of you that didn't vote, SHAME ON YOU!

Ontario supported Liberals most. BC and Alberta clearly voted Conservative.

Honestly guys- at this point we now have a 5 year government standstill. Nothing will get done.

As long as your "Country" has
- it's own currency
- health care
- Pay's it's financial deficit to Ottawa
- 100% self contained with no Canadian federal assistance
