If you have the time and money, make it a salt water reef aquarium.
You can put some Nemo's in it

If I were setting up an aquarium from scratch, I'd go with the aquatic frogs. They swim up to the top of the water, then spread eagle, and float down to the bottom like little parachutes. Very entertaining.

Then put crawfish in the bottom. They'll walk around waving their claws, trying to pinch a leg off...

I would recommend ciclids. They have a large variety of them from Africans which tend to be more colorful (blue etc.) to the American ones. We have a ciclid tank and we have a number of convicts that keep us constantly amused because they are always breeding. The breeding is the exciting part watching them flirt, then picking out their spot, laying the eggs, tending them...then watching they hatch and grow. Convicts are unusual in that they stay with their young. They guard them, swish up things from the bottom to feed them etc. They even put the babies to 'bed" at night. The mom and dad suck them up in their mouth and then put them in a little nook or corner and pile them on top of each other where they stay for the night. The parents then let them go free swimming in a small area they guard during the day.

Cilcids are semi-aggressive so you can't have your normal fish such as neons and such in the tank...they will kill them. When you add a new chilid you have to rearrange the stuff in the tank to get rid of the territories or someone is gonna die. The Green Terror is a bad ass fish that gets to be a good size and is constantly hungry....the convicts, green terrors etc. will eat feeder fish you put into the tank. They eat chilid food and love frozen bloodworms as a treat.

40g and 50g?

hehehe, I am setting up a 315g full reef display... with total water volume in the area of 550-600g.

If you are into predators, try a mantis shrimp... those things are wicked. I have two in tanks on my desk. Bastards go crazy on hermit crabs and snails

If you don't want to put animals in it, make some weird diorama out of them. Something so "out there" that when people come over they get nervous being around it. Sorry that's not a very good suggestion, I am tired.

Saw that monster on Leno a while back. Thing is ginormous!

Did you happen to read this part of the article though, LOL:

The most dangerous thing about the goliath bird-eater is its ability to flick urticating hairs from its body at any creature it perceives as a threat, including humans. This is not a species of tarantula you'd keep as a pet.

Not true, in a 40 gallon take you can only have a max 2-3 gold fish if you want them to stay healthy for a long time.

I have Cichlids too, feulbornies (sp) they breed like crazy, and a few others. They're fun to watch because of being territorial, and all have their own personalities. Best part is.. they're freshwater , well actually they like a little salt, I just add a teaspoon when I do a water change.

Its on a concrete floor in my basement.

The stand is built from 4x4 and 2x6's with a 1" sheet of plywood for a top.

There will actually be 3, possibly 4 tanks hooked into this system in total.

315G display (7'x3'x2')
160ishg equipment tank
90g water change tank
90g algae filter

yes, I can spell addiction...

You want some Bad Mother Fuckers? Go after some Snakeheads, but they grow a little too fast (see pic). So another safe bet of bad ass fish are ... Managuense (3rd pic - jaguar cichlid), Red Devil (2nd pic), Butterkoferi (1st pic), anything else you put in with any of this is sure to die! Or atleast get the shit kicked out of it!

All those fish I named are virtually maintenance free! Just throw either shrimp, goldfish, or pinky mice in there once a week and clean every month or two unless it gets filthy from sunlight,(creates algae) and your set. Funny shit to watch them fight! One always dies!
