I'm Not Using Internet Explorer Much Anymore

Especially when simply visiting a website can result in hackers stealing your credit card info and other personal info:

I love Mozilla, and Mozilla Firefox.

I love Mozilla, and Mozilla Firefox.

i kicked Internet Exploiter to the curb long ago and use Opera.

Unfortunately I still have to load IE up for navigating a few sponsor sites. Too many people still using ASP and letting frontpage take over their lives.

opera is just as good if not more streamlined. The tabbed browsing is very tight in opera and memory management is much tighter.

I know what you mean. I have a few crucial sites that only work with IE. Damn it.

i think so, I would assume so.

It has google ads in the top corner of the app but ya learn to ignore it after awhile. doesnt interfeer at all. Also has built in email client, a good pretty one at that and even goes as far as having a built in notes block. SO mnay addons to it it's rediculous, none of which are syste heavy at all. Load your initial window and additional tabs ctrl-N and your all set for the day. Fucker won't crash.

Walk through all the settings carefully to customize to your surfing habbits. Everything is very well laid out for preferences though. My only complaiont is that I can't figure out how to shut off flash in it.

oh, few tips.

press center mouse button to load page in new browser, or change settings so it loads in new tab. I have it set to load new browser if it's a page that I think I will close off the second it laods. Such as checkign out tgps. That way youc an just throw teh cursor tot he corner and shut the window fast.

Also, this browser supports gestures. You can program it to do what you want really. In auto gesture mode it learns your habbits. if it see's that you move your cursor to the corner very fast and click the 'x' a lot, it will hit the 'x' for you eventualy when you move the mouse like that.. every day mousing habbits get macro'ed... follow me?

If opera is already loaded and you hit the icon, it won't load a new window, it will load a new blank tab for you. Very handy to keep tray clutter under control.

There are SO many nice things about this Opera browser. I don't want to take the time to list them right now because I'm too busy playing. But I highly recommend everyone to go try it, even if only the free version (the google ads really weren't that bad).

I've been a fan of Netscape for years, however there was about a 1-2 year period of time where it kinda sucked a lil...however the recent releases for the last year have done quit nicely...

I love having my mail, newsgroup, browser, and calendar all bundled into the same app...

So far I like it even better than Mozilla and Firefox. It's got all the features I love about those two, plus a few more that are awesome.

One GFY specific feature that's better with Opera.... this black box where I type for this post is the same width as it would be in IE. I know that in both Mozilla and Firefox this box was much narrower.

I recommend trying out the free version and then upgrading if you don't like the google ads. I didn't really mind them, but I upgraded anyway just to help support the developers.

I'm also using the built in email feature to see how I like that. It seems pretty nice too!

And I don't know about you, but I like to copy and paste things from websites temporarily. The "notes" feature on this browser is perfect for that.

Try it!

He's talking about Opera. The feature he's demonstrating is really cool.

Opera takes up so little space. You might as well download it too and check it out. I like it better.

Thanks Donovan. Just downloaded it. Wow. Pretty damn impressive so far. I used Opera when it originally came out. This new version has lot of neat features.

I like that F11 completely gives you full page real estate with no bars at all.

OK, that is a great feature. Can't understant why IE doesn't have all this stuff. With all their R&D money they have to work with they should be the top dog, but after seeing some of these new alternatives, its clear IE is lagging.

I absolutely LOVE opera. I just wish more site developpers would take into consideration that they need to keep their code clean so all browser can read it clearly. Some things Opera cant even load. Trying mozilla on them causes explorer crashes lol.

Im trying Firefox right now and it's awesome. I can even use my before and back buttons on my mouse to navigate pages and it has a drop down to save entries in forms.
It feels just like IE, but hopefully I wont have to worry about browser hijacking.

I had to reformat 4 times in the past 2 months because of spyware.

Hey Donovan, I just did what you did shortly after trying the trial and bought the non-ad version. How long did it take to get the unlock code? Been about 30 mins since I paid and no e-mail yet.

Never mind, e-mail just arrived. If anyone orders it take about an 1 hour to get your registration unlock code.

This is one fast browser.

I can see that indeed.

OK, so how is it able to perform so much better than IE?

What technology is giving it all this speed?

I was always a Netscape fan in the way back days. Then got into IE. Tried a few alternatives way back also, but didn't see much advantage over the main two browsers.

But I'll admit after trying both Firefox and Opera. Opera is the clear winner, in terms of performance and features and blows away IE.

I'm surprised more people haven't switched over.

I'm going to keep all 3 since its a good way to see how a site design lays out with the variations.

ok so I just downloaded Opera and just spent a few minutes getting the toolbars the way I like it (as small as possible). But one ting I can't figure out is how to get rid of the stuff to the right of the address bar - like the google search, zoom, security button, etc. I like my address bar to be as long as possible for some reason, lol.

So how do I get rid of those, or extend the address bar pusing the other stuff off the screen?

IF I can get rid of this stuff I will go and buy the no-ad version. If not I will just use this to test the look of pages I make.

Good idea, I wish more webmasters would test shit on different browser platforms.

As for the speed thing...

IE reads code differently. It renders what is inside a table before continuing to read the rest of the code. If the first table on the page has a 2 meg image file it will try to load that before rendering the next snippet. If it takes too long it will 'multitask' and move on to the next snippet of code. Already it's lagged far behind how other browsers do it. I think opera (from what I have noticed) gets the html loaded first, renders the text, tables, colors, fonts etc THEN goes after images and graphics.

Try finding a very slow server and loading a complex page on it, You'll see what I mean. It gets the page layout and text and colors n shit first and then loads the images so if it does time out on slow servers it at least gave ya something navigatable and readable.

The Internet is going to hell with all this spyware, keyloggers, password stealers etc. Norton's just found PWsteal on my computer but it couldn't have been there long because it scans it every day. Still, I had to go change all my friggen passwords..just in case....pissed me off royally.
