OK, so how is it able to perform so much better than IE?

What technology is giving it all this speed?

I was always a Netscape fan in the way back days. Then got into IE. Tried a few alternatives way back also, but didn't see much advantage over the main two browsers.

But I'll admit after trying both Firefox and Opera. Opera is the clear winner, in terms of performance and features and blows away IE.

I'm surprised more people haven't switched over.

I'm going to keep all 3 since its a good way to see how a site design lays out with the variations.
Good idea, I wish more webmasters would test shit on different browser platforms.

As for the speed thing...

IE reads code differently. It renders what is inside a table before continuing to read the rest of the code. If the first table on the page has a 2 meg image file it will try to load that before rendering the next snippet. If it takes too long it will 'multitask' and move on to the next snippet of code. Already it's lagged far behind how other browsers do it. I think opera (from what I have noticed) gets the html loaded first, renders the text, tables, colors, fonts etc THEN goes after images and graphics.

Try finding a very slow server and loading a complex page on it, You'll see what I mean. It gets the page layout and text and colors n shit first and then loads the images so if it does time out on slow servers it at least gave ya something navigatable and readable.
