the other night i went to the diner around 3 am for some after party eats. and all three waitresses in there were over 70 years old.

whats up with the state of things when a senior citizen has to work that kind of job during those kinds of hours.

btw, my waitress was absolutely kickass

funny as hell also, so i hooked up the tip bigtime.

I really don't know how most seniors get by day to day.

I see them in the supermarket barely able to reach for things higher up on the shelf. I always offer to reach for it for them.

You have to plan for the senior years, but unfortunate hurdles can mess up the plans.

they prob do it to suplament their retirement, after all most of the elderly cant live on their retirement.

Go to Any casino in Las Vegas you will see some older folks working as well.

It's like when you go to wal-mart or supermarkets at 1 am all the security officers are like 55+ as if they are really gonna be able to do something other than blow a whistle.

I was watching a show on sixty minutes a few months ago....there's this company, I forget where, who only hires retirees....

These men and women work because they don't want to die.

They got bored with retirement.

I think, if they can, they should work.....we've got Mom cleaning and gardening, which is a whole lot better than sitting around, letting her brain rot.

She's got arthritis, so the backyard has become her physical therapy....and she is weeding every day....I buy her plants; and, for the first time in a long time, there's more spring to her step.

She's only 65.

Her husband retired and died within two years and I believe it was from sheer boredom and nothing to do.

The ones that really hurt me are those whose children don't care. Then, I get angry. It's our loving obligation to care for our parents when they get old.

i hear what you guys are saying.

i think so long as someone that age wants to work then they should so long as they are capable.

but i'm just saddened that social security sucks and that some elderly are forced to work such shifts and do certain tasks that are hard on younger people let alone them.

Agree! Sad when ya think we like to consider this a "civilised society". Third world countries treat their older folks better.

I've seen alot more seniors working lately, or maybe I'm just noticing it more now. I think it's sad too. It seems to me if you're retired and are wanting to get out and work out of boredom or to have something you need to do, wouldn't you choose something you love? I think they just need the money. That sucks!

Your senior years are dependent upon what you have done in your working years and how you prepare yourself for those later years. My parents are senior citizens and they are living life to the fullest. They worked their asses off and have been reaping the benefits of that hard work for the last 20 years. Both my parents are 80 y/o.

I might add, the highest education level they reached was the 6th grade. Pretty amazing when you think about it.
