The vote is coming, have you people done any more thinking about who you're going to vote for? (and why?)

My take so far includes this....

New PC Alliance --- You know, I'm all for beefing up our sagging military, but I think Harper is way over the top with his proposed spending. The writing is on the wall for a huge deficit over the next 4-8 years if we put these guys in the drivers seat. Also, from what I've read and heard, Ralf Klein is talking about doing something with the health care system in Alberta once the PC's are elected, and the thinking is that it will have to do with bringing in a two-tier system which is modelled more to the US system. Obviously the federal PC Alliance supports this notion..... but I can't say that I do. By Americanizing our health care system we would be taking huge steps in the wrong direction in my opinion. HUGE steps.

NDP --- You know, a lot of people are talking about how if the NDP were elected we would have higher taxes and more needless spending etc.... yet I find it interesting that the NDP right here in Manitoba are actually doing quite a good job of it so far. I never hear people griping about the government like they did for many years under the reign of terror known as the Filmon regime (PC). Jack Layton, like any other party leader, has some good ideas, some great ideas, and some not-so-good ones too. Anyone looking for a viable alternative to the "big two" will likely vote for these guys or the Green Party.

Liberals --- Here's the big question.... Do we want to keep these guys in power for another term? Certainly they have taken huge bites out of the national debt, but there are so many issues on the table that are important that the Libs don't quite measure up on in the minds of many. Still, Paul Martin being the "accountant" of the party imparts a sense of sensible and ordered bookkeeping by our government, and after all, they are already in the driver's seat and have been for some time. There would be no period of "limbo" where the taking over of governmental duties takes place for months on end.

The Green party --- Some great points and stances in their platform, but like the others... some not so great. These guys aren't the end-all/be-all as far as being spot-on with all the major issues, no question about it. However, if you feel very strongly about one or several of the issues that the Green party stands strongest for, then this is the way to go... although many would say that it is simply a vote wasted on a party that has no chance of winning. The same could be said of the NDP though, or any other party not in "the big two".

The rest of the pack is pretty much up to you to discuss if you wish, I won't be researching them out much as they simply aren't going to play a heavy role in forming the next government.

Lastly, as it has been said before numerous times..... please get out and vote. If you don't, you give up your right to gripe about the government later on. Come Monday, go cast your vote.

Thank you.
My own take on things is that I believe Canada does need to beef up it's military... but probably not to the extreme that Harper proposes. I also feel that any move towards an americanized two-tier system of health care would come to suck absolute shit for us and is a bad idea period.

Lastly, those who plan to be lazy and not vote on Monday I say get off your lazy asses and get out and vote. No vote is wasted. If you choose to lay on the couch and veg instead of voting YOU GIVE UP YOUR RIGHT TO BITCH ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT LATER.

Vote.

Martin has also said he's going to increase military spending, but not to a degree that will bankrupt us like Harper is proposing. Also, Martin has promised that he won't be involved in weaponizing space, Harper will jump right in with both feet. IMO that is going to be the biggest waste of money in Canadian history, the US has already spent something like 280 billion on it and it's nowhere near functional.
