I had that same problem once and it was the beginning of a battle to remove the bastard thing. I finally ended up doing a sys restore.

Have you tried nosing around in Run>msconfig>startup to see if anything new is being loaded?

Why don't people use firewalls?
even free ones like zone alarm, ever since I installed a firewall I forgot all about that spy/adware shit all you need is a well configured firewall  (install it BEFORE you have all that shit on your pc) |

Better yet, get a router even if you only have 1 pc. When I got a router, zonealarm wasnt getting anymore incoming. Gotta love it.
