Have your music tastes changed over the years?

Back in middle and high school I was into the gangsta rap. Then I got into rock a bit. After my divorce, I started listening to country.

Now I have a 400 disk CD changer that has everything from Ice Cube to Kenny G to GnR to Phantom of the Opera all the way back to Biz Markie, Rodney O and Joe Cooley, The original DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, as well as Quiet Riot, DJ Tiesto, Kid Rock, Body Count, Johnny Cash, Prince, and even some old school Michael and Janet Jackson shit.

Currently I'm listening to Run DMC's Raising Hell album.

The first time I can remember taking note to music was back when my baby sitter was listening to Def Leppard's Pyromania album. Damn, I still love that shit.

So...What do you like now vs then?

Never liked Rap music. When I was a kid I listened to Queen, Survivor and Dire Straits later mainly Symphonic Metal and some Arid, Keith Caputo and Muse. More and more Classical music lately...

Used to listen to metal, rock, and some rap (Bone Thugs, "Art Of War" still my fav rap CD). Now I'm starting to like "easy going" music and more Classical, especially stuff like string tributes to bands.

I don't know if my tastes have changed much at all -- I'm still all over the map, I just like even more "artists" now and am less embarrassed to enjoy stuff like House of Pain.

I just made a mix that had a Phish song, the Sanford and Son theme, Herbie Hancock's "Rockit", a couple of White Stripes songs, Morphine, Chili Peppers, Motley Crue, Outkast, Al Green, Thomas Dolby, Anthrax, the Subdudes, Wanda Jackson, blah blah blah. Fun fun fun!!

The biggest difference is I listen to less "sad"/melancholy music than I did when I was younger.

when I was a kid I liked hard rock, now I like 80's metal, some of the new hard rock & metal, plus blues, and classical.

I never cared for country even though I grew up in east texas, and I absolutely cant stand rap or hip hop

My music tastes have changed many, many times. I've gone through phases of liking everything from country to metal to rap. Right now I like mostly 80's pop and 70's and 80's rock.

Not really. I notice I like pretty much the same stuff as before although a couple of the genres themselves have morphed a bit over the past two decades. Hip Hop and Dance have a million different variations now a days.

Bravo....nothing like some soft, cool blue jazz on a Sunday evening.

After I got married, I was exposed to a vein of music I never knew existed as a young Zeppelin loving Hendrix-phile. Latin music. Not the trendy, pop music that can be heard on radio stations today, but old Latin Jazz rhythms.

I became the town dj when I was 11... it was a very small town.

What that means is that you have to have a taste for it all... from country, to metal, to rap, to dance, to even polka music.

At some point in the night, in that small town, you'll have played it all.

I liked it all though, which I guess is what made me a good dj. I still like it all... but for the most part, I find myself listening to 80's and 90's stuff..... rock, metal and rap.

I used to go through phases. When I was a kid it was Paula Abdul and Mariah Carey. then I was into gangsta rap during early junior high, punk in late junior high and early highschool. I was a metal/rock girl during most of highschool. College brought out the punk in me, but lately I've been into hiphop. Tastes in music can change so quickly and easily.
