Bush, Schieffer , Armitage, Powell really sticking their nose into aussie politics...

most probably at our leader's behest - The opposition leader got a good serve from about 4 republican party heavyweights in the media including Colin Powell about his pledge to withdraw our troops by christmas if re-elected.. but because Prime Minister Howard is so far up Bush's ass they're repaying him the favour by "warning" the aussie public about the US/AU alliance and what pulling out "could mean". As well as losing another higher profile coalition partner isn't a good thing for Bush's campaign either.
heheh the assholes are scratching each other's backs with our near simultaeneous elections.

What an absolute bunch of twaddle, the opposition leader has rightly called the current Australian contribution (as opposed to earlier higher commitment) as symbolic.. Howard has already pulled out a bunch.. and probably would have pulled out the remaining guys if Latham didn't beat him to the idea..

the aussie public might not react the way he hopes either.. not too many people liked being forced into the war in the first place and then to be told what to do by foreign unelected politicians hopefully won't go down well...

meh..

hahah thanks mate.. yes you should move to AU.... however you'd would totally miss the live LA punk rock
wish I was catching up with you guys (next week?).. bastards

No one's probably very interested in this post.. just kinda annoyed by the hypocrisy of it as well as the near transparency of their motives.. as if the remaining 250 soldiers mean sweet fuck all lol. They've got 'em doing airport duty and shit.. Bush has promised Howard they won't be in harms way so there are no combat deaths which would hurt Howards campaign.. Just like the japanese soldiers in their walled compound they never leave.. The SAS and shite helped out a fair bit int he early days, because thats what we do best.. we were in the country even before the war was announced with US and UK special forces.. the guys left are nothing.. as if the US couldn't replace 250 guys with by adding to their 20,000 contractors

I almost laughed when i heard news reports about the US "sticking their nose" into Australian politics. What has Labour been doing since the war in Iraq started? They've condemned American foreign policy over and over. And sure, that's their right, but then they come out and get all shitty because the US says they don't like Labour's position. Simply put, they've been sticking their noses in american politics for quite some time. The hypocrisy of the labour party is hilarious.

No.. Howard took us to war.. effectively making american policy OUR POLICY and hence open to attack. You think Labor would bother to even mention it if it didn't drag a thousand australian lives into it and complicit?
Choda.. when American politics demands that you put australian lives at risk you are damn well sure it's their right to attack those policies.

This is a completely, and lets be honest UNPRECEDENTED attack on an opposition party's policies for their own self interest.
What we do with our own symbolic 250 troops shouldn't be dictated to us from 10,000km away by having several high ranking officials commenting in the Australian media.. this is unheard of Choda, this is not merely complaining internally.

Do you really think Labour wouldn't have gone to war if they had been in power? It'd be exactly the same situation, and the liberal party would be trying to score political points by attacking US policy and the labour party's decision to go to war and suck the US's cock. Australian politics is a joke. The opposition, regardless of whether it's labour or liberal, will oppose decisions purely for the sake of opposing.

You really think Mark Latham would go to war with George Bush?? lol, no way mate.
For the most part what you have to say is almost true.. in that labor or liberal, most would join a war effort, but this has been a perculiar war outside of references such as the first gulf war and run by arch conservatives in the US with geopolitical agendas and supported by a conservative party at home.
With Mark Latham in charge I think we can categorically say that he wouldn't have gone in with them.. Also no, our opposition parties don't oppose just for the sake of opposing, sure they've got to do their job by always having something to say and trying to amend legislation to find a middle ground.. thats a GOOD thing.. but on many many issues such as the recent big one in border protection they agree on.

Also, i just saw Powell in an interview say that even if Labour is elected, that their decision to pull out the troops will not effect the US/Australian alliance and that any Australian leader will still be welcome in the whitehouse.

Good post bhutocracy. The sooner John Howard receives the shock I predict he will come the next Federal Election and is voted out of office the better!
