Trust me, I have, and I know just how bad it sucks, but my only point is that whether they like it or not, the site owners are going to have to be contacted. It is a long and tedious job, and I have had to do it a few times, becuase a sponsor's "FREE HOSTING" was more troubels than it was worth.

He did a smart move. Going to GFY got hsi problem out in the open so peopel know why he is redirecting if they recognize the gallery domain(s)

I'm going to offer a suggestion..and just hope that you don't send your traffic to one of the crooked programs that I complain about all the time...

Anyhow, if you do have to pull the links, here is the fastest and most effective way to handle this situation. And the beauty is, you don't have to 404 any of your galleries...

Simply login to your server with SSH.
Tar your entire html directory.
Untar the directory into a folder on your desktop.
Using a program like "Advanced Find & Replace" , change all of the links to whatever new program you want to send the traffic to.
You can even replace entire blocks of html, if you also want to replace images from your existing sponsor.
Tar the folder up.
Upload it back to your server.
Untar it.
That's it.

Of course, I'm assuming that you have hundreds or thousands of effected gallery pages..and manually changing each page would take way to long.

Time = $$$$. The money lost would be worth FAR more and could be used far more constructively.

Well it sounds like its sponsor content then it won´t be a possiblity.

He's just being his usual friendly self, don't mind him, he works for us.

not only is changing the galleries going to get them banned, but with the very intricate designs Lady M turns out, it's highly impractical.

Not to mention the content in the gallery template (the background chopped up stuff) is likely licenced to the sponsor and that would make them guilty of copyright infringement.

Take it from someone that has also had to pull links from a sponsor that went belly up...and had over 2 years of galleries out there..changing the links does work. And I'm not aware of a single blacklist.

The gallery remains identical...only the sponsor link has changed. The surfer gets to see the same gallery, and the TGP owner doesn't have some of his pages going off into 404 land.

O.K...just read the post above me...and yes..you are right..if the galleries use content and/or other graphical elements from the sponsor...yes, this is a bit of a problem...

I use comus and it catches people changing links. Unless both link codes are the same number of characters it changes the size of the html file, and then you're caught.

And some scripts check the files modification date. That's the other way it could catch you.

Believe me, we all want to see it put to rest, I have honestly never heard of a situtation like this, and I'm seriously rethinking how we do business.

I read every post in this thread, not that many people do it, even tho everyone gave different options, I think you already know what you're going to do, and I highly doubt TGP owners will blacklist you if they know your current situation.

The only thing that sucks is the money wasted on the spots that were bought.

Anyhow...with creative marketing on a FPA, it's easy to offer an alternative solution to the surfer and stay completely honest. You don't send them directly to another sponsor with the existing creative. That IS dishonest, as you are showing content that might not be available at the other sponsor's site.


And, in closing...if you are already sending a note out to all of the TGP owners...why not tell them that you are changing the link...
That way they don't have to contend with your 404's...and you still have all of your galleries producing sales...albeit, probably dramatically reduced.


But, I have my own business to contend to...so figuring out the rest is up to you.

And this is where my suggestions end.

Oh this isn't even taking into account the paid spots that were used for this sponsor.. these are straight up partner accounts that would be threatened. And it's more than that. The whole thing is happening on FALSE pretenses.
