wireless home networking question
OK, heres what I want to do. I have a laptop at home, and just got a cable hi speed connection installed into my place. Right now im just running a cat 5 cable from my cable modem into my laptops NIC card and its working fine, but I want to go wireless so i can bring the lappy anywhere in the house and be connected. I was looking at an all-in-one cable modem/wireless router that toshiba has, looks like it would do the trick...kinda pricey though at 200 bucks...my question is, if i just buy a wireless router will i be able to accomplish what im trying? what im confused about is if i need another desktop computer to connect to the broadband and then network to my laptop, or if i can just attach a router directly to the cable modem and only use my laptop with it. any help or points in the right direction will be appreciated.

I got the D-Link Extreme Air setup, it rocks.
Just plug the cable modem into the wireless router. Then get their wireless card for your laptop, about $50. It works perfectly. |
