If they are stealing your affiliate codes, wouldn't you be getting paid for their signups?

I sure wish someone would hijack my affiliate codes and promote it without my permission.

I've seen a scumware plugin that looks for affiliate code patterns in the URL and replaces the refcode with someone elses.

What do you want to know?

Doesn't matter - the ref code will still be replaced on the redirect.

Why? because I've seen a noticable decrease in my bottom line over the past year.

Yet overall traffic is better than ever.

Will this work?

To protect the affiliate links in your web site, and stop commission thieves in their tracks, you can disguise all of your affiliate links so they appear to be links to other pages within your site by creating a "redirection URL" for each of them. To do this, simply create a new web page that looks like this:

<HTML>
hahahahahaha>
hahahahahaha hahahahahahahahahaha="Refresh" CONTENT="0; URL=affiliate_url">
<TITLE></TITLE>
</HEAD>
<BODY>
</BODY>
</HTML>

Replace "affiliate_url" with your actual coded affiliate URL, and remove the periods at the beginning of each line that are used here for demonstration purposes. Now you will advertise your disguised affiliate links by directing visitors to your new URL:

http://www.yourdomainname.com/redirection_page.html

Until there is some kind of consensus and perhaps action taken on the issue, the best way to fight back against commission hijackers is to protect your site as best you can, and inform your affiliate partners of how thief-ware hurts the small companies and sites that help make the Internet great - and depend on their affiliate income to survive.

Yeah, I'm surprised at the number of adult webmasters who have no idea this scumware is out there.

For those of you who don't know, it basically works like an anti-virus program in that it scans source code before the browser displays it. Except this replaces affiliate codes with their own. It doesn't matter if you redirect sponsor traffic through another domain or hide it in a 1 second meta refresh.

Just a guess here, but I'm sure they likely target well-known sponsor programs instead of replacing all instances of "id=whatever" in the URL's since that usually doesn't involve affiliate codes.

They will also replace the code in the URL in the address field after the link is clicked.

Im pretty sure the scumware will still pick up the link and and change it...

Remember your not trying to defeat IE.... so the common sense ways of dealing with this wont work

Well if they do can that, then there is absolutely nothing we can do.

It has to be stopped at the local machine. Ounce in the browser URL address field it`s completely out of our hands.

The only real way to combat this is on the sponsors end.

If they get an account that suddenly spikes in sales or a new one with a lot of them, then something may be up. A quick visit to some of the referring pages to see if their id is actually on those pages would catch this.

Not just that..
But others as well...

I was completely enraged by the auto load scam and many most all never even thought about this kinda shit or the possibilites, just note the ones standing around thinking it was "Smart marketing".

FUCKEN THIEVES, and stupid ones at that which only makes the possibility of Affiliate code switches even more likely in the future.

Switching at the core level of the end user can be found out however if/when it happens as I have no doubts whats so ever it will indeed happen.

Ya people thought shaving was bad, wait till you know your being shaved by the very software on end user's distributed by fuck heads no one should trust ever again in this industry.

Sambo have you found any evidence of this happening yet?

Ya goto remember on the auto load scam the fuck wad ran away on a "Vacation".

So there must be some agreement with scumware makers concerning "Sponsors" already to a degree.

There is. It's called theft by taking. I promise you sponsors are getting ass raped at the major IPSP join pages. Other sponsors that own scumware are stealing the joins themselves. The ultimate answer lies within the IPSPs monitorring referring URLs and the Sponsors monitering joins as Sambo suggested.

I have my own solution which is to combat the scumware guys directly. I won't tell any of you what that is though. But it's war if you have a lot of traffic so bring a big army to the battle fiield.

does it surprise you that spyware builders are thieves?

how about them turning so many peoples computers unstable and useless, and scaring away surfers from the web? hurting all online businesses alltogether.

who is ever gonna have the balls to fight these scumbags?
