This administration passes laws even if they know tthey will be overturn... It just fits their agenda at that time....

Judge: Bush Abortion Ban Unconstitutional

June 1, 2004 1:27 p.m. EST

By DAVID KRAVETS, Associated Press Writer

SAN FRANCISCO - A federal judge Tuesday declared unconstitutional the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act, saying the measure infringes on a woman's right to choose.

U.S. District Judge Phyllis Hamilton's ruling came in one of three lawsuits challenging the legislation President Bush signed last year.

The ruling applies to Planned Parenthood clinics and their doctors, who perform roughly half the nation's abortions.

"The act poses an undue burden on a woman's right to choose an abortion," Hamilton wrote.

Federal judges in New York and Nebraska also heard challenges to the law earlier this year but have yet to rule.

Bush signed the bill in November, saying "a terrible form of violence has been directed against children who are inches from birth while the law looked the other way."
If the judges could have just " repelled" Bush....

When you hear Bush say he's getting rid of "activist federal judges", these are the ones he means.

Funny how these right wingers are so outraged by the sight of 1 unborn fetus that they decide 30 year old law needs to be changed, yet thousands of Iraqi and Palestinian children being killed in missile strikes doesn't make them bat an eye. Hypocrisy at it's finest.

Yeah partial birth abortions aren't pretty, but more unwanted children who are abused and suffer aren't exactly what the world needs right now while other children are being used as slaves and killers all around the world.

I think more educating the trailer park trash of America about birth control and sterilizing people would be a better place to spend efforts.

Bush only gives a shit about his religious cronies votes anyhow. He doesn't give a shit about childrens lives.

Why does it take so long for the women to decide they don't want the child? Maybe they can collect welfare and WIC for 8.5 months...

Somehow these anti-abortion nutcases seem to always be the same people who don't give a fuck about kids in countries they're bombing for clout and oil.

Go blow up an abortion clinic and in the next breath cry about terrorists, don't worry your stupidity isn't showing.

How can you care more about the unborn fetus of a poor women who was raped than you do about these kids? Please answer that question for me, no matter how I try to think about it I can't get my head around your viewpoint.

Some points I ponder

If the war was for OIL, why are gas prices and the Barrel of oil hit an all time high today?

If the girl was raped, why did she wait until so late in the term to have an abortion???

lets think about this logically......

woman gets raped, according to bush she should have the kid

woman is pregnant and has an illness, according to bush she should have the kid

woman is a heavy drug addict and could kill the kid, according to bush she should have the kid

woman could die on the table from a delivery yet bush says "HAVE THE KID"

*******

you know, this make perfect sense now. i see the rationale pro lifers come up with.

lets bring a kid into this world that is either unwanted (due to extreme circumstances) or will be motherless. that makes all the sense in the world. even better yet, lets kill one person so that the birth of another occurs. wouldn't that be considered murder if you force a woman (who could possibly die) to give birth? last i heard, murder was a felony offense punishable by death.

oh and before you bring up adoption or foster care, think again! go read the statistics on how well that works out.

idiots

In the end if everything goes as planned, there are upsides to winning a war even though there were casualties along the way. Children who die in war are not being specifically targeted.

On the other hand, I don't think anyone can make an argument in support of abortion that proves in the end it's worth it. Supporters use the same tired arguement time and time again.... "A woman has a right to choose." That's the only thing they stand on.

Bush Pushes Faith-Based Aid Initiative

June 1, 2004 11:24 a.m. EST

By KATA KERTESZ, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - President Bush, trying to revive a stalled initiative, said Tuesday the doctrine of separation-of-state should not prevent religious groups from competing for government money to help the needy.

"I'm telling America, we need to not discriminate against faith-based programs," Bush told a White House conference of community leaders. "We need to welcome them so our society is more wholesome, more welcoming and more hopeful for every single citizen."

Opponents of Bush's initiative, launched in the early days of his administration, worry that government would wind up paying for religion. They also object to allowing taxpayer-funded groups to hire and fire based on religious persuasion. But the proposal is popular with religious groups, a key political constituency of Bush's, and he is pushing it as an election-year initiative.

"I fully understand it's important to maintain the separation of church and state," Bush said. "We don't want the state to become the church nor do we want the church to become the state. We're in common agreement there."

"But I do believe that groups should be allowed to access social service grants so long as they don't proselytize or exclude somebody simply because they don't share a certain faith," he said. "In other words, there's a way to accomplish the separation of church and state and at the same time accomplish the social objective of having America become a hopeful place and loving place."

That's not true. There would be things in the law allowing for an abortion in very specific situations. Yet again a supporter comes forth with pure BS.

Get the abortion when you first find out your Prego from the Rape

woman is pregnant and has an illness, according to bush she should have the kid
I have not seen the Law, if it is realy this strict, then it is wrong.

woman is a heavy drug addict and could kill the kid, according to bush she should have the kid
State should make her have an abortion in firts trimester, so again if the law does not allow this it is wrong.

woman could die on the table from a delivery yet bush says "HAVE THE KID"
This one is stupid, if she in in labor, they will take the kid out anyway, and save the mothers life...
Or if you are talking about because the Mother has medical complications, then that should also be her decision, but look at how many mothers that wanted to get pregnant, and said they would die for the child..

Back to a first Post, Education is the root of these problems, and bad parenting...

Like most people I am not to one side or the other, I take a Middle road, as I do for most issues...

"This subsection does not apply to a partial-birth abortion that is necessary to save the life of a mother whose life is endangered by a physical disorder, physical illness, or physical injury, including a life-endangering physical condition caused by or arising from the pregnancy itself. "

More poor babies/orphans/crack babies = more people in prison and more people in the army. What the fuck do the Republicans care, they're cutting all the social programs anyway.

In 3rd world countries, Bush is cutting funding for any clinic teaching ANYTHING BUT abstinence, not just abortion but birth control... more overpopulation in the 3rd world = more cheap labour.

Now, these may not be Bush's reasons, he may truly be doing this because of his fucking crazy evangelical "I'm Jesus" views, but these are the reasons any serious capitalist takes this stance.

What if she's dirt poor? Sick? A crackhead? Raped by a man with HIV? Going to get it anyway in a back lane by some guy with a hanger who's going to kill her and the fetus? Fuck, I thought we went through this shit in like the 60's, do you guys want to start stripping black people of their rights next, after you're done with Muslims and women?

I see the point you're making here directfiesta, but you had to know with the caliber of some of the people here they were going to turn it into an anti abortion fest. 70%+ people in the USA are pro life and Bush decides to make a law against it to go along with his nutty Christian conservative base. Gets better and better every day with these scumbags, but at least we only have 6 months left. The countdown is on!

That's a blanket statement that assumes all aborted babies would have ended up that way, and it also doesn't take adoption into consideration. In case you didn't know, there is an extremely long waiting list to adopt kids in the US. There's certainly not a shortage of good homes.

rather then worring about abortions, why not worry about welfare reform.

take away the crack pipe forever, and the junkie cant use drugs right?

same thing with welfare. cut the fuck out of giving and maybe some legs will stay closed and with that effect comes less women at clinics.

Thanks for pulling numbers right out of your ass. In fact, most polls are either about 50/50, or in support of a ban.

I think you meant to say, "I'm about to make a blanket statement, to counter the extremely valid points Rich has made". I wish I could think ideologically about everything, but unfortunately some people are born with common sense which forces them to not accept the easy, incorrect answer to everything.

My statement doesn't assume all aborted babies will end up poor in the least, please think hard and you'll figure out why. High school statistics 101. If there is no shortage of good homes in the US then there wouldn't be a huge homeless child problem already, let alone room for more.

Funny, I can find a pro life site that says 73% of REPUBLICANS alone are pro life.

Point of the story, don't believe everything you read on a biased website.

Let's see, how about CNN/gallop/USA today poll? 38% in favor of a constitutional ban, and that's with Bush hamming it up every week to take our minds off everything shitty he's done.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/...ion-usat_x.htm

I know Bush isn't very good at math, but 38% doesn't mean most people are in favor of it. That makes his anti-abortion judges the "activists", not the other way around.

Yeah that shit is pretty fucked up.. I dont have a problem with abortion, but if the woman is so far along why not finish carrying it? Kind of sad.
