When is the best time to start a family?

If you have kids when you're young, you're still young when you see them grow up. If you have them in your 40's you'll be in your 60's when they're just going off to college. But then you have to think about the financial considerations of having kids...being able to support them properly.

Does 30 years old sound like a good age to start a family? Most of us have a career by then. If you 'just let it happen when you meet mrs right' you could be 80 years old by then. The decision for a family should involve some planning, right?

Strange looking back at some of the girls in high school that were having kids and who often dropped out. Today their kids will be in highschool in a few more years lol. Time flies.

I am 36 and will have my first son in 3 months. There never really is a prime time to have them. Just stop the birth control. and enjoy your life.

Don't have kids at any time.

The world is seriously fucked up, and getting worst at an accelerating rate.

Not sure if you really meant what you wrote, but I have actually thought about this before. It's troubling sometimes thinking of bringing offspring into this kind of world. But life is so sweet too and I'm happy to have had the opportunity to be alive (well except on nights when contemplating suicide ).

I'd say mid 30's... you need to experience life first before taking on that responsibility. It's amazing how many of the girls I shoot have kids... it's sad. But on a positive note, if they get knocked up... I've got work for them on PregnantCoeds

About 9 months after you knock her up. besides that there is no perfect time ... you just go with the flow. Had my first when I was 14 and I'm in my late 30's with a 7 and 8 yo.

I don't think there's ever really any ideal time. I'm 28, and I still can't imagine getting married and having kids. Then, there are women who are my age and have 4 kids (eeeeek). In addition to the financial concerns, I think you should have spent some time where you and your wife/husband/partner got to enjoy each other, go on vacations, and enjoy being together as a couple, but I don't think there is ever a specific "time".

I think after 18 any age is good to have kids.. The woman shops for a man, the man gives her the option to have kids, and whatever happens afterwards is your own choice. Dont compromise your lifestlye cuz your baby's momma is making demands, unless of course you're married. If you have a lot of kids you could have a lot of $$ problems. On the other hand you could have a wonderful relationship, down the road, with some of the most pleasant people you'll ever meet.

Money is important yeah but it's not everything. I'm not an expert on relationships, but I would say the right time is when you have a stable marriage with a spouse you can trust and rely on both literally and emotionally. Age is relative if the other elements aren't there. Having children is a natural thing that loses some of it's appeal if it's overanalyzed and broken down to a science.

I notice that a large protion of people who have kids are ones you think can't afford them. Somehow it all works out financially.

I don't get it though.

Since the beginning of time, there have been those who say don't bring children into the world...it's no good....since the depression, since the wars....

When I was a therapist, many couples would come in for counseling and their question was whether or not to have children and when...

Take two sheets of paper and write down why you want children on one and why they are a pain in the ass on the other (financial, emotional drains, time constrictions, etc.)

Most often, the results went something like this:

The 'no way in hell' page had a list a mile wrong, with all of the reasons to never procreate.

The 'yes' list usually had one or two sentences. One of them, most often, was 'Because we want a baby'.

If you decide you want children, the 'when' doesn't matter. Go forth and have a baby. You'll manage, no matter what age you are.
