questions about eczema

I have been trying to find out information on the net about this skin condition and I am wondering if maybe any gfy'ers know about this first hand. My nephew was born with it and it leaves these painful looking rashes and since he's a baby we have to keep him from scratching himself. Is there a cureall for this and what helps the condition?

No cure. Medicine doesn't even know what causes it. Cortisone relieves the symptoms in adults. Ask your doctor if it's safe for children.

there are salt bath treatments you can buy, dead sea salt I believe is the name of it, seems to dry the stuff up a good bit but the sad thing is there is no cure. Lots of lotion, no extremely hot baths or showers, and alot of natural sunlight and outdoor time will help keep it under control.

Generally cortisone isn't used in children because it's a steroid and can cause fertility problems later in life. In minute doses it's pretty harmless.

TDF, some aloe vera might give a bit of relief, or perhaps some oatmeal bath or lotion.. Check your local pharmacy and ask what they recommend Good luck.

There is a new creme that is safe for infants...stops itching and helps heal because it can leave scars...can't remember what the name is but they have commercials for it on TV all the time now.

you should try sea salt based ointments and a regular visit to the beach might relieve him as mush as 50% of the discomfort he's having

You can try cetaphil as an alternative for taking baths all the time.

A new cream came out last year called Elidel.

It does not contain Corticosteroids and it's safe for toddlers (2 years and up)

But you need a prescription.

Excellent site :

My son has it but he only broke out for the first year. Haven't seen a spot on him in a long long time.

TDF.. as has been said.. there is no cure... which sucks... I've been suffering with it for 8 years....

Be sure that he is switched to a 'skin safe' soap.. DOVE is the best... besides that, you go to a skin doc and get some creams...

things like Benadryl help short term... long term... you just itch!

;-(
