Generally cortisone isn't used in children because it's a steroid and can cause fertility problems later in life. In minute doses it's pretty harmless.
TDF, some aloe vera might give a bit of relief, or perhaps some oatmeal bath or lotion.. Check your local pharmacy and ask what they recommend
