Is it still considered typosquatting if all i'm doing is creating a page with links and information to the real companies site and letting the surfer know that they mistyped the name and they should click this link.

With my affiliate code in of course

Seems to me it shouldn't be considered as typosquatting cos I'm not trying to sell it to the company in question, I'm not selling a competitors products and infact I'm driving traffic to their site that may of otherwise of got pissed off and gone somewhere else.

What's you take on this?

I actually learned it today but apparently it's been around for like 4 years or so. Oh I suppose I'm a noob too then. I've only been involved in the Internet for 10 years!

Well here's a question for you.

Would you go balls out and get SEO to get a top listing on Google for the typo or play it safe and just keep it on the down low and just get the typeins? I noticed there are a lot of the same typos in the overture search too.

I suck at SEO.. if I was good at it I would though. Any program that had a problem with that has issues I think.

I had my page all set up on it's own dedicated ip and was just waiting to switch the nameservers. It's done! Let the good times rool!

Oh and if I get a law suit or pulled from the affiliate program I'll be right back on here crying and calling Evil Guy nasty names!

Let me ask you this: If you were the company in question and you had spent millions of dollars branding your company would it be ok with you if someone came along and started capitalizing on your efforts/investments?

If you (or some other typosquatter) hadn't been using the domain the surfer would have gotten a 404 and realized they misspelled it and typed in the correct spelling.

Most companies don't have problems with it.
Feel free to sell me your domain if it gets some type-ins and acually makes some sales from time to time.

Or it could happen that someone registers a typo and promotes another program or sends to a console hell.
Do you think the program owners would sue everyone doing it?
So its better for them if someone is sending the traffic to them through affiliate links.

If there's a sponsor who owns a site called sponsorsite1.com - many affiliates register domains like sponsor-site-1.com for SE listings etc.
So in the same way you can register typos of sponsro sites that get some type-in traffic.

I've seen a popular sponsor's site typo domain change hands for $30k
