Or it could happen that someone registers a typo and promotes another program or sends to a console hell.
Do you think the program owners would sue everyone doing it?
So its better for them if someone is sending the traffic to them through affiliate links.
If there's a sponsor who owns a site called sponsorsite1.com - many affiliates register domains like sponsor-site-1.com for SE listings etc.
So in the same way you can register typos of sponsro sites that get some type-in traffic.
I've seen a popular sponsor's site typo domain change hands for $30k
