Summary: DUMBER & DUMBEST

I was not a big fan of STARSHIP TROOPERS #1, mostly because all of the actors were horrible. The only thing good were the action scenes and Denise Richards. But STARSHIP 2: HERO OF THE FEDERATION is beyond horrible, dumb, stupid, grotesque. The special effects are sickening in a throw-up inducing manner. SPOILERS: All of the fingers look like rubbery hot dog bits, and lots of fingers get cut off in various scenes, and lots of dark jelly (it looks like grape jelly) is always oozing out of wounds, decapitated heads, hands, eyes, fingers, hands, etc. The rubbery look of the bits of flesh that are constantly flying around is gross because so much gore is tossed around with these little bits. A Spider-creature is removed from inside someone's skull and spine, and lots of jelly chunks get splashed around. Red blood spatters are on the walls, but the blood coming out of the people and their wounds is usually dark, almost black. What makes these effects so grotesque, is that they are not very good, but excess amounts of "blood" and jelly and flesh-bits make you want to puke. At one point, a grisly encounter cuts away to food being served on someone's plate at the Mess Hall. There is a difference between "horror" and just something gross that turns your stomach. The acting did not help. The characters are all morons. Long past the time when it is obvious that some of the soldiers are being infested with insects, the soldiers are still ready to party. Obvious signs (such as one guy whose thumb turns purple) are just ignored until the entire crew (except two) are infested. At one point, the head Psychic finds a bunch of the insect-infested soldiers infecting the "General" and the non-infected psychic gives a really moronic speech about what will happen to them now that they are his prisoners. While the Psychic LT is speaking, one of the insect-people just walks up and cuts the psychic Troopers throat! I guess he didn't see that coming! This movie is beyond retarded! The actual infesting insects that get killed look like jello molds filled with goo (so that they can be stepped on and squashed). The spider-creatures that infest people by going into their mouths (remember ALIEN) are total grey CGI. Since so much CGI is used (the cheap Grey version), the sets and the scenes are very dark, and in dark environments, the cheapie CGI does not look so cheesy. The fact that not a single soldier really manages to kill their attacking bugs and escape to warn the others is a bogus touch. All of them fall to the bugs pretty easily, and in some cases it is so dumb it is funny. There are tons of things wrong with this film, but perhaps the worst part is the very end, when DAX, the accused murderer, is turned into a hero in one of the "Government" promotional films. Why they add that crap to the end of the movie is beyond me. More insulting is that the pregnant Trooper is at the screening of the advertisement, and some Trooper Recruiter with a "Bionic" arm that looks like a cheap silver-painted cardboard remake of THE TIN-MAN's arm (Wizard of Oz), walks over to the woman holding her baby and says "Too bad you can't grow up faster, we need lots of arms and legs for the GRINDERS." Any real Mother would have probably kneed that guy in the nuts, and any Father would have pulled the Recruiter's cardboard arm off and shoved it where the sun don't shine. This added-on segment was really a perfect synopsis of just how incredibly sub-moronic, CRUDE, and repulsive this film is.

I'll rent it if it had titties like the first one did though. I love movies with coed shower scenes.

Robot Jox is another good future/sci-fi movie with a coed shower scene. The future kicks ass.

I was at the video store and picked ST2 up and the guy at the front desk came up to me and said "put that down, you really dont want this one - it's a shity movie".. I put it down and got Kill Bill v1 instead.

I have no desire to see the low budget, straight to DVD sequel. The first one sucked because the action was silly. In the book, nobody sat there shooting the bugs with thousands of rounds ... they nuked the fuckers from big mech-type suits.
