I took Zyban "Wellbutrin" about 2 yrs ago. It is a antidpressant and made me walking zobie for 3 days. Made me sick also.

You need like 2 weeks on itfor body to get "used" to it.

It worked somewhat but i couldnt take the zombie feeling it gave me.

It cut the urge but for me it wasnt good. I went to accupuntrist later on. I quit for about months after about 5 visits with him. He gave me some herbal patch and some aroma shit to sniff. Only thing that really worked. But didnt last .

I took it for 4 months and it didn't help me at all.
But I have a friend who used it and now he doesn't smoke.

So it is like all other stop smoking aids, it will work if you want it to. Just got to have the will power to quit.

My mom did the hypnosis thing to stop smoking once.... worked really well. She didn't want one at all, but tried one anyway just for fun and said that it was the most horrible thing she had ever tasted in her life.

I tried Zyban when I tried quitting smoking once. I don't know. I think it was more like a placebo effect more than anything else.

It can be a great tool to quit smoking. It didn't help me that much.

The only time I was successful was when I did it cold turkey.

3 days to remove nicotine of your body. It's all you need.

My last cigarette was 3 years ago.

I know, I'm fucking annoying with this website, but the articles are excellent. It's free and that's when I decided to go cold turkey.

Knowledge is power.

http://www.whyquit.com

Read it, think about your nicotine addiction and you won't need Zyban. Trust me.

hmmm.... not sounding real promising. But I only got 4 sample boxes to try it out. Enouygh to last about a month. If it causes bad things like stomach aches or something or just doesn't work, I'll have to duct tape myself to a chair and suffer through the cold turkey, cuz nothing else has ever worked. The gum and the lozenge stuff definatly don't work for me.

30 years old... started smoking at 16.

I tried the patches like 8 years years ago, they worked, and I didn't smoke.. but at the time, I was surrounded by 80 smokers who'd come into my office to shoot the shit.. I caved.

Tried hypnosis with my mother in law about 6 years ago.
Did nothing for me, she hasn't smoked since.

About to go on the patches again, cause there's nobody left around me that smokes to get on my fucking nerves.

worst part is getting used to it actually being on your skin.

i'd have my wife put in on my back in a spot where i wouldn't be scratching at it.

I used Zyban (Well Butrin) a few years back and i got down to one cig a day but started up again since the medicine made me have very bad mood swings.

At 30... i think i'll try hypnosis.

Whatever you do Amp, good luck. Quitting smoking and to stay that way is a big accomplishment in my book.

I'm having a hard time believing I'll ever be able to quit.... but I gotta keep trying. I hate those damned cigarettes. But I'm so deeply addicted to them I can't seem to stop. 22 years is a hardcore addiction.

is it true that lungs actually heal themselves once you quit?

or is that just some urban legend designed to get people to quit

Amp, I have been surrounded by smokers my entire life.

Nobody protected me from second-hand smoke when I was a kid, and everyone in my family smoked several packs a day. Now, you can't smoke on the Los Angeles, Santa Monica, and Malibu beaches. You can't smoke in restaurants. You can't smoke in office buildings. You can't smoke in your own home if your neighbors complain. You can't smoke in your car if there are children with you.

I'm a non-smoker, but these laws are getting ridiculous.

I have friends who have been successful with the patch, acupuncture, and hypnosis.

I would give hypnosis a try.

The studies show if you stop smoking, your lungs *may* get better. But it is for damn sure that if you don't stop, you will get emphysema like my father and live on a breathing machine the rest of your restricted life.

I hear you man, I'm the same way. I made a promise to my mom that I'd stop at 30 and I've been self reinforcing it for the last few years but it's almost go time. Come Sept., I have to make good on my promise and I need to keep my word. It'll be tough but I'll die trying.

I used the patch about 3 months ago and it actually does kill the cravings. I didn't smoke for around a week but started back when I was playing poker at the casino and bored out of my mind. Only thing with the patch was I got semi sick to my stomach from time to time especially if I didn't eat for awhile and it gave me some wild ass dreams at night. Plan on using it again though.

Keep in mind that everyone reacts differently to those kinds of pills... but I took it as an anti-depressant for a very short period and had to go off of it because of the side effects. I had night terrors that were so horrendous, I couldn't have ever imagined having such terrifying dreams. Other than that, every time I ate, even a small bite of food, my stomach would bloat up uncomfortably for an hour or so. I hated it.

The key with quitting smoking is to keep quitting. If you start up again, don't give up, try quitting again.

I only smoked for four years (a pack a day habit) when I quit cold turkey... but I had to quit many times before it finally worked. A big thing was to avoid situations where I used to smoke a lot, like bars, coffee shops, etc. And you have to avoid being around smokers... it's almost impossible if someone else living with you is going to continue smoking.

The only way to quit smoking is to simply stop smoking cold turkey. With patches and pills you are just replacing your addiction.

I took Zyban when I finally quit smoking. It was my 3rd attempt and I don't honestly know if Zyban helped or not.. the cravings seemed just as strong as the first two attempts. Personally, I don't think it did shit.

I attribute my success to will power. My wife (then girlfriend) was pregnant with our first daughter. And that's why I decided to quit.

BTW: I did it cold turkey while taking Zyban. I don't recommend cutting back or anything. Just set a date, break up your remaining cigs the night before when you go to bed.. find a substitution like gum .. the usually boring crap.

If you work from home even better.. you don't have to worry about smoke buddies at work. You can take a few days to chill and watch tv all day or something (if you can afford it) to keep you distracted etc.

I used zyban and for me it was great. I haven't smoked in two years. It made me not want a cigarette and mellowed me out. My girlfriend wanted me to stay on it because she said I was less of a jerk when I was taking it. I say try the free samples when you are ready to quit. Good Luck!
