I respect anyone willing to risk their lives for others as well....just think its scary that someone can be given all the power the police are given with just a GED.

for example, chicago cops used to have to have a bachelors... now its an associate degree... but are still held to a much higher standard than most.

Chicago also has a very unique police/law enforcement history. I'm sure they hold the police to higher standards partially because of that.

I am sure that's true: both my grandpa and my stepdad were cops and neither one of them graduated from high school.

Michael Moore even did a little story about a guy who was TURNED DOWN for a cop job because he tested too HIGH on his iq -- they said guys like that don't know how to follow orders, make quick decisions, etc.

VERY scary!

Like I said, my stepdad and my grandpa both were cops AND NEITHER ONE GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL. Has nothing to do with "believing anything I read on GFY", has to do with growing up with cops in my family - I don't have to "look into" anything to know the level of education in my family.

Maybe times have changed -- that WAS a while ago.

i remember they had a radio ad on here in phoenix that stated you could be a cop if you had your GED and no 'hard' drug use.
