giving NORMAL birth...awwful!

Hank_Heartland 05-25-2004 04:49 AM

Let's see,

1) Stuck a knife through my foot through the bone when I was about 7yrs old playing a game sticking the knife in the ground next to it...it was a bitch going to the doctor to get that fucker out.

2) Tore all the ligaments in my left ankle playing college football...had surgery and was in a cast for many months.

3) Fell on the ice about 10 yrs ago and cracked 2 ribs on my right side...felt like I was going to die everytime I coughed for over two weeks:(

Nothing for awhile though:Graucho

Peaches 05-25-2004 06:18 AM

I had a c-section after the right side of my epidural wore off, so there was zero anesthesia on the right side. OUCH! :(

slackologist 05-25-2004 06:31 AM

hit by truck, 6inch skull fracture -- age 8.

completley snapped bones in hand & dr pushing bones back into alignment before applying the cast and the several hours in total pre morphine.

badmrfrosty 05-25-2004 06:37 AM

Mine was a bone marrow extraction to test for lukemia

they take a 24" needle and ram it into your back right above your asscrack, and dig around, then they suck out bone marrow. They cant really numb you, and i was awake.

but #2 would be when i had my entropian lift done on my eyelids, you have to be awake for that too because your eyes have to stay open so all i feel is heat and pain..

because he was cauterizing the bleeders.

it was great.

scoreman 05-25-2004 06:41 AM

chest surgery...the equivalent of what you see on ER when they really open em up.

I was in ICU for 5 days after and in the hospital 13 days total.

The first 2 days after were about as bad as it can get. 90 min morphine push couldnt come fast enough.

PBucksLauren 05-25-2004 07:31 AM

The pain when I got curb smiled!

SlickCash Sarah 05-25-2004 07:34 AM

When I was in highschool I used to teach small kids how to ice skate, and I was holding one kids hand and he wiped out and brought me down with him. His skake sliced the top of my eye, right below my eye brow and when I went to the hospital, they had to stich it up without any freezing because it was too close to my eyeball. That hurt like a bitch!

LauraLee 05-25-2004 07:38 AM

For sure the car accidents i have been in, and the ensuing injuries.
However, by far the worst was breaking my hip in 3 places while dislocating it. The icing on the cake was the massive laceration all the way up my right shin bone and the deep cut to the bone on my left knee that came along with it.
Didn't walk for over a year. Wheelchairs and crutches were my best friends.
Although the physical pain of the entire situation sucked, what was worse was losing my athletic scholarships.

Milena Dickman 05-25-2004 08:40 AM

Injuring my knee being run over a car. The accident wasn't the most painfull... the pain was during the days before and after the surgery to fix my knee.

I'm ok now :thumbsup

m00d 05-25-2004 08:41 AM

bladder infection and ear infection

ouch

mindoza 05-25-2004 08:44 AM

I ruptured my large intestine...was in hospital for 10 days with a morphine drip..then went back in and they removed 3/4 of intestine and after surgery my blood pressure dropped so low they could not give me pain medicine...I would actually hyperventilate and passout from the pain. I laid crying for 26 hrs.

I had a really bad stomach virus once. I had to go to hospital for a week. The cramps were so painful, but the never worked out for sure what it was.

Throat surgery. Removing my tonsils and also slicing/reshaping the bit of skin in front of my throat. Didn't feel a thing while I was in hospital, I even went home a day earlier, but then it hit. The pain was unbelievable, like someone was still poking a knife against an open wound. Swallowing liquid was difficult; swallowing food was impossible. The pain killers only worked for about 4 hours but I could only have them every 6. By the time I could have another one I was in extreme pain again, so swallowing a tablet was excruciatingly painful.

Apart from the night in hospital I didn't eat any solids for about 10 days after my op. I lost a lot of weight.

Almost cut my pinkie off last year, severed the ligamit....very painful.
It is forever now stuck in one position and I get it caught on things alot.

Shot myself in the toe with a pellet gun, that was probably the most painful thing I have ever experienced.

2477 05-25-2004 09:38 AM

I had to get a Spinal-Tap when I was 11. For some reason, their not permitted to use anesthesia during the procedure. Luckily, the results were negative, but I'll never forget the experience.

JUSTB 05-25-2004 09:40 AM

Dry sockets when I had my wisdom teeth out and child birth. Not too much difference.

I've had more serious injuries, but for sheer blinding make your eyes water pain you can't beat those old stand-bys.

dunno, burns aren't as bad as some things, having done both, I can compare, got my hand caught in between a hot exhaust manifold and a radiator once, it let go when the skin boiled off and it got slick with blood.

I still say the axe hurt more.

Oberon 05-25-2004 08:14 PM

Although, if you ask Jact, it would probably be when I accidentally dropped the washing machine on both of us.

He bitched for months.

snapping my tibia (shin bone) in half playing basketball.... paramedics thought it was sprained since it was extremely swollen so they took their sweet old time to get me to the ER.... got xrayed and doctors said ti was the worst break they had ever seen... and 10 years ago, they woulnd't have had the technology to fix it and i would have a peg leg. but luckily i just have 2 giant screws holding me together.

For 2 hours I was in so much pain I couldn't even scream.
At the height of agony, the doctor leaned over me and said "did you know that the surface of your lung is as sensitive as your eyeball?"
I still get panic attacks whenever I think I feel any kind if chest pain, and it's been 17 years.

OUCH!!!!!

Climbing up a self made tree ladder and having the wood break underneath me, as I slide down with teh end of the nail sticking out and digging into my leg for about 5 inches.

When I almost took off my pinky while stocking a pop machine. Those have sharp edges.

I think emotional pain is the worst. Physically having a catheter inserted into my urinary tract because of a haematoma (blood clot) on my kidney was not painless lol. I have also been hit on the head with a blockbuster, had my 5th and 6th rib broken with a steel bar, had a bottle slice my toes until they were hanging off, and my little finger almost hacked off with a meat cleaver etc. etc.. All pale into insignificance when compared to heart ache though! :2 cents:

Pain oh how relative it is and thankfully we can not recall the actual feelings. I can relate to many on the experiences they went through. Honestly though I do not think many know true pain, the type of pain that greets you in the morning and tucks you in at night, the kind of pain that never stops and never goes away.
Anything less is simply an injury to me. Yes they hurt but they could and would never measure up to what pain really can be. People touched on heart ache, possibly a loss of a loved one yet even those deminish over the months and years, but they are on the right track.

Starting with a few select injuries then I will move into real pain.
Mowing the lawn as a kid and the blade shot a piece of bailing wire over straight through my leg and bone. It was just sticking out of both sides. That was fairly mild in my mind.

Shortly before I turned twelve I got my first real taste of what some may consider pain. It started with a slight pens and needles feeling in my lower back which lasted a day before I went to the doctors. They looked me over and sent me home that friday night. That lasted a week before I went in for the spinal tap which is where the stick a needle into your spinal cord without pain medication and suck out some of the fluid. Then I was sent back home for the weekend. That night the horror began. The feelings I felt I can not put to words as there is none to acuratly describe the sensation. It was constant, unrelenting and all I could do is scream until I passed out only to be awoke by my own screaming. I could feel everything and I do mean everything. If someone raised their voice the pain would increase, if something moved near me and I felt the slightest vibration it would increase. I was rushed to the hospital that night when my parents had gotten home from work as I could not call them because I could not make it to the phone. The 35+ mile trip to the ER was in an old jeep of all things down bumpy roads, with every tiny bump an explosion of nothing less than the feeling of molten lead would be felt in every vien in my body. This all turned out to be the sensation one goes through as your spinal cord is being choked off its blood supply. These feelings went on for over 5 days two of which I had blacked out into a self enduced pain coma.

How I long for those feelings now. Sure having been either sitting or laying down now for the last 20 years does cause some mild discomfort in your back, muscle spazms day in day out are a nuisence at best and sure dealing with catherterizations for years several times a day may be a tad uncomfortable. The real deffinition of pain never really visited me until awhile latter.

Real pain is in daily reminders. Real pain is trying to recall what grass felt like under your feet, real pain is watching others do the simplest things and not enjoying them while you try to prevent your insides from festering over and winning the emotional war that your body is the battlegrounds for.
I look back now on those memories of what I thought were pain. What I would not do nor give to even live another day of those 5 days in the hospital again just to savor the feelings from then because although painful feelings they were feelings I will never have again.
Enjoy those simple things people, and yes even savor those painful moments. It could be worse, trust me.

broke my arm once after falling 20 foot from a slide when I was a kid and landing with my arm beneath me. the bones inside my arm snapped at about mid forearm and crossed one another then jaggedly pushed the skin out (didnt break though) about 2 inches. my hand was hanging uselessly, though I'd never be able to use it again, horrible fucking pain, but all is well. amazing how we heal.

pimplink 05-26-2004 06:02 PM

I did not experience anything that hurts me so bad, physically, but my brother does.
