Laser Eye Surgery Update
Some of you wanted to be kept updated (because you were thinking of getting the surgery yourself) on my laser eye surgery recovery.
It's been a few months and I went for a checkup last week. Still seeing at 20/20 and eyes are healing nicely. No side effects, no problems. I had the newer Custom Lasik surgery done, which I recommend if you're worried about your night vision (mine actually seems improved). All in all, if you're thinking of getting this surgery done, I say go for it. At this point I barely remember what life was like wearing contacts and glasses every day. |

that is great news, but not surprising. . . . . I know when I had mine done 20+ years ago it was the best thing I have ever had done medically
Now, if they could come up with something like that for curing farsightedness |

I know someone I work with who had her eyes done, and she absolutely *loves* it. I'm seriously considering getting it done myself, although I'm not sure if PRK or LASIK will be my optimal choice (my pupils are quite large, which is what tends to cause the night vision problems and starburst/corona problems)

Did the custom cost much more than $1k per eye? We have a large university hospital here in town and I'm trying to get into a study and get the surgery free of cost.
I've worn glasses since age 6 and don't like my face without specs. So regardless, I'll still have an assortment of frames. But to be able to see without them would be heaven. |

I had it done in november 03 and it was also the best decision i ever made. I'll update this post in another 50 years if i go blind...mine cost $4800, minus $1000 for insured discount (this place gave a discount to those with insurance even though the insurance didn't pay a penny).
MONEY-SAVING TIP: i also setup a Section 125 prepaid medical plan so that i paid the remainder out of pretax dollars, essentially giving me another 37% off. so try and sign up for that if you can (ask your employer to set it up)

no min age. but they say that your eyesight should be stabilised for 5 years.
people like me, who never had glasses till I was 18, and my prescription got slightly worse at 22 (-1.5 in 1 eye, -0.75 in the other), should wait till our eyes have stabilised... otherwise there is a chance your eyes will degrade after the surgery is done... and you can only have lasik once. |
