Is a raised gas price really such a big deal?

Think about the big picture ...

Ok it sucks to see the bill after filling up a truck and it costs $70 to fill it, but average out the difference over the span of the entire year.

so it costs an extra $100 - $300 per year

not so big deal i think

but yea it sucks when you see the actual bill after filling up lol

Everything is costing more but who is making more money to pay for it all. It's not just the gas, it's just one more thing you have to pay more for now.

I don't know it depends on how much you drive. Some people do a hundred miles a day and gotta fill up every other day. Some peope only have to fillup once or twice a week.

The higher gas prices effect the commuters who drive the most...

LOL. Maybe in the city. Try an extra $3000 a year if you live in the country. I guess that's our payback for having everything else so cheap, we have to drive for miles to do our shopping, etc.

goods are moved with trucks for the most part which use gas. unless you buy crap made in town, you are paying more for everything.

Increased gas prices don't only put up personal costs (and for many people by a lot more than the original poster suggested), but the cost of everything else.

Further, in addition to the real increases, a lot of businesses take the opportunity to add in a few extra points believing that people will not notice.

another way to look at it is...Gas has just been a given at the dollar area for like a decade or more. Its only natural that like everything the cost rises someday

It may only cost you an extra $300/year, but it costs me an extra $300/WEEK. Seriously. On average I drive approximately 100,000km/year.
What can I say? I love to drive. Anyone up for a roadtrip?

Hell here in LA you can't make it far without lots of gas.

I have family an hour + away its like $40 bucks just to visit.

My sister could barely afford to visit her sick grandmother every couple days cause she is a student and the gas is so fucking expensive.

Talking several hundred bucks a year more, not a couple.

And anyone else notice groceries going up as well? Fuckers try to gank ya anyway then cay and squeeze pennies out of everyone. Meanwhile still trying to cut back on everyone's pay and shit.

Food prices in the US are retarded. Fast food is the worst. Seems like everytime Im in the US the prices are higher.
The prices are exactly the same here, but in Canadian funds.
I hate paying close to $10 cdn for a damn big mac meal!

I spend about $30- $35 dollars a day for my other non adult work. It's not alot but it adds up pretty quick. These gas prices are starting to tick me off.

It is a big deal to those people/families with fixed incomes.
To those people who budget $10/week for gas, when it goes up to $18-$20/week, it hurts them.

Yeah if you want to eat cheap fast food you have to stick to the dollar menus. A Mc Donalds combo supersized is like $6 - $7 for a decent burger. And that's in the cheap neighborhood. They charge more in nicer areas.

But I went to the grocery store the other day and spent close to $4 for a gallon of milk, $2 for a head of lettuce and $3 for a loaf of bread. And those are just basic items. It gives me the urge to drive to different stores to get better deals but fuckin hell then you spend more on gas so it doesn't really make a difference.

Think about that..

Trucks that bring your food, Walmart supplies and tons of other goods need gas to run.

Those suppliers have to pay the gas.

So what's their solution? They have to put higher prices on their products.

Then Walmart, the grocery stores receive a higher bill for the same products. Guess who's gonna pay for that?

You, the customer, who thinks that the higher gas prices ain't that bad.

And that's just trucks. We're not talking about cargo planes.. etc..

i think the biggest cause of all the fuss is purely psychological, the simple feeling of 'paying more' makes people uneasy

It's not only gas prices aand transportation in general that rises, but ANYTHING made with petroleum products; think plastics, nylon, and even some carpeting. All will go up because of the $40 barrel of oil.

Exactly, just imagine how much more it is costing fedex, ups, etc etc etc.

What pisses me off is there is all kinds of alternatives but the same shareholders that own ford, gm, chevy etc all have stock in oil companies as well.

Cheaper and more nature friendly processes have been around for over a decade but just somehow cannot muster enough market share to make into the big three marketing plans. If the damn lobbyists and shareholders would push for these technologies we would not see these type of prices.

It is all a big damn monopoly. They say it is because supply and demand but that is bullshit. We have seen high prices in low demand times of the year. It is all &$#$#@$#& politics.

Bastards,

AT least I will feel a little better when I stop for gas this evening on my way home. Knowing I gave them what for on GFY today.

I will only have to pay though maybe 5.00 or 6.00 though since I am on my bike. So take that you bunch of shareholders, politicians and last but not least OPEC.

When we liberated Irag, I thought we would at least see some benefits from it, but geeez. Over a 100 billion and so many lives later we are paying the highest we have ever paid for oil. Just doesn't make sense. Other than the other arab goverments are laughing their asses off and making us pay through the nose.

*%#$#^$#&

!!!!
do you honestly think the oil companies give a flying fuck if a bunch of people don't pump gas on the 20th?

you will still need gas whether it's before or after the 20th. Not to mention, your lousy $40 bucks for a tank of gas is nothing to them. Do you have any idea what it costs to fill up just one rig with deisel? Several hundreds of dollars. Do you have any idea what it costs to fill up just one plane?

Your boycotting them by not filling your car one day is hardly a concern. They're going to get it from you sooner or later unless you abandon your vehicle and walk everywhere from here on out.

and if that's not enough to make you realize the futility of a gas station boycott, then think about all the other things in the world that need fuel....

trains
boats, from the biggest cargo ocean liners & cruise liners down to the smallest jetski.
various companies, factories, & mills
farms
rockets
military

and the list goes on and on and on. You can't possibly think that not filling up a few cars one day is going to make even the slightest dent.

I agree the gas prices suck...but have you seen the price of milk lately?
