Is it okay get drunk in front of children?

I saw this thread somewhere else and was amazed at the range of responses.

Is it okay to get drunk in front of children?

What if they aren't your own and their caregivers are sober? Can you get drunk on holidays in front of your niece/nephew/little cousins?

What if both parents are home and one stays sober but the other one drinks?

What if both parents drink in moderation, with neither getting drunk?

Do you get drunk in front of your kids? Do you drink in moderation in front of your kids?

Do you let others get drunk in front of your kids? Do you let others drink in moderation in front of your kids?

people are so mixed regarding alcohol and children.

first off, how many parents keep their beer right next to the milk in fridges?

drugs are bad but alcohol is worst, its like sugar, its everywhere in the house and parents expect their kids "not to touch it."

dumb asses, most parents should be shot.

I have never had a drink around children, it's best to keep alcohol away from them and let them make their own choice when they are old enough to!

but what if it isn't your choice? what if you have family who always bring their kids to any holiday/gathering? what if you have family who drink in front of their children almost everyday, who think it is as normal as drinking a cup of tea?

I wouldn't get drunk in front of children
It really isn't responsible for an adult I think
Here in Quebec they made a study and it seems 2 out of 3 kids under 10 years old have already tasted alcohol at least once

Children and alcohol don't mix. Our children have never been around alcohol.

I guess it depends on where you come from as to how you feel about that. Most Europeans not only drink in front of their children in moderation, kids are given watered down wine or beer as well from what I saw over there. Seems that most Europeans don't have a binging problem with their alcohol either, so the argument can be made that taking the 'forbidden' out of it turns it into something that's not a big deal at all to kids and not something they abuse.

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about the whole thing. Having a glass of wine with dinner or a few beers at a bbq is one thing, drinking Jager shots is another entirely in my book.

id agree with all but alcohol is worse. a young kid drinks a beer or two and gets sick or passes out, a kid swallows pills or shoots up and they're dead.

I think it's important to teach your children a heathy and mature attitude towards alcohol. If a child sees their parents enjoying an odd glass of wine without getting loaded it teaches moderation.

The extreme view, either seeing parents getting totally snapped all the time or having parents preach about the evils of booze, puts too much focus on alcohol. If you make it an 'evil' thing, a child is more likely to rebel and want to try it later in life, and won't have been taught that you can enjoy alcohol responsibly in moderation.

In my opinion.. no. Kids dont need to see that stuff. The world is a big place.. find someplace without children around.

when you do it around them, they automaticly want to do it aswell. all doing it around them does is show them where to find it.

So you think it's bad if a parent, uncle or other relative has a glass of wine with Christmas Dinner if children are present?
