:mad New Abuse Photos Even Worse

WASHINGTON (AP) - The abuse of Iraqi prisoners by U.S. military personnel included torture, humiliation and forced sex beyond what has been seen in public, chagrined members of Congress said Wednesday after viewing fresh photos and videos.

``I don't know how the hell these people got into our army,'' said Ben Nighthorse Campbell, R-Colo., one of several members of Congress who emerged grim-faced from lawmakers-only screenings in the Capitol.

Lawmakers said they saw disturbing images that included military dogs snarling at cowering prisoners, Iraqi women commanded to expose their breasts and photos of sex acts, including forced homosexual sex.

In addition, lawmakers said there were images of hooded Iraqi prisoners being forced to masturbate while cameras captured the scene.

Will they be released to the public???

All the "excuses" and "reasoning" as to why they should not issue the material is just that - "excuses" and the usual bullshit spin which the Pentagon and this Admin have hahahahahaded in their "culture". Never is there an open and honest statement.

One thing that has been used as a "reason" were the comments from the scum who beheaded that young man. Nothing matters more than "life" and I am totally with his family.

As for the core issue of US violation of human rights - there is no point in "hiding" any images. If they don't release the material they have - I know of others who will and this will sure give an indicator as to how extensive this was and that it has been happening (least since it was first recorded) since June 2003.

In fact.. it has been going on from the time the US invaded Afghanistan - all this shit has yet to come out and it's "extensive" and ranges from homicide to torture. Small example is.. there is a modest establishment known as the Ariana Hotel in Kabul. Ask Tennant if the International Red Cross are aware of it and how the CIA are doing with interrogations there. From what I know of this and other CIA or "CIA contractor" activity - they all need to be stuffed in a court room at the International Criminal Court.

I have little doubt this is going to surface soon and we can forget all the bullshit excuses and reasoning from the US Administration - they just don't matter any more - it supercedes all of em...

The problem with that is that it is just temporary "solution". The shit with the "current pics" is just the usual spin and delaying nonsense since a few other people/orgs who have no connection with the Pentagon have more than enough images to cause a load of problems.

It better to declare an "open book" now and convicting those involved and get some credibility back. Either way, the US people are fully entitled to the truth - they have not been getting too much of that lately.

The way I see it is this kind of shit happens in war, it always has. Whether we feel it right or wrong, it happens. The only difference with this war is that we've been able to see photos and videos of what goes on and it's terribly disturbing.

'How the hell did they get into our military' he says? They were recruited and trained that's how. Abusing techniques used in interrogations of prisoners is expected in war, it's wrong and I'm against it of course, but those who don't think it's common are fooling themselves.

Sadly that ain't exactly a balanced assessment. My their own admission, the US government ackowledges that 70-90% of all those imprisoned were not shooting at anyone and were released. BTW - it was more than just "giving then a hard time" and "made them get naked" - several were never released, or rather, they were "released" in a wooden box after having been murdered and the death certificates issued by US military doctors declaring the cause of death to be "homicide". There is a small problem somewhere.

When you have an occupying force that clearly has "cooperation" at a higher level to hide prisoners from the Red Cross by shuffling them thru different internment facilities and when asked specifically if they were holding these people, denying this. This alone is a violation of the Geneva Convention.

War brings death. And the media wants everybody to know what happens in Iraq. But what do they achieve in doing this? Do they think it will stop the war?

You could make that statement about any story on the news.

Why should the media cover murder in America? Why should they cover anything at all?

Their job is supposed to be to report the facts, even though that's rarely done anymore since Fox showed up and turned news into all propaganda.

In the middle of this serious thread - that brings a smirk

I was wondering if there are actually any "real journalists" left - apparently there are - and they "know" the pathetic trash that tries to call itself "news".

Every time I see that slogan "CNN - The Most Trusted Name In News" - I wince and think there should be a court challenge to this gross misrepresentation!

I'm all for the full release of all the pictures and Video's as soon as the people on trial have been tried and found either innocent or guilty, just like everyone else the people involved are entitled to a fair trial, and having images in the media may taint the trials.

It's amazing how many here are prepared to throw out the Geneva convention and basic civilised methods of handling the other sides prisoners. Would they think the same if it were Americans troops be treated this way?

Look at the spin put out by the White House on the female soldier who was captured and mistreated, do you think Muslim terrorist will not use this to continue their war?

people in this country are idiots that can't pry themselves away from their deep fried cheese sticks, NASCAR or Jerry Springer long enough to understand that there is whole other world that exists beyond the mail box at the end of their street

American news:

"two US soldiers were killed today in a firefight in..."

European News:

"tragically, 22 innocent civilians were caught in the crossfire and killed today, including one infant and it's mother as well as two US soldiers during a firefight in..."

PleasurePays - very true. the us media sucks - they must be getting schmiergeld from someone - to get truthful unbiased news here you gotta search for it.

The estimated 1,800 images included many duplicates, as well as scenes unrelated to prisoner abuse. (truncated) ... one showed a U.S. solider shooting a camel in the head.
WTF? Hey pencil pushing fucks, train soldiers not to do stupid shit - those high up the chain of command are at fault for not properly training soldiers (who are often people who couldnt make it in 'civilian' life so they joined the armed forces to get their shit together).

Id rather have the dead camel for president right about now.

Sooo true. Lived in the United States for 2 years and change. Just couldn`t watch the TV after 6 months and after a year I wanted to flush every American flag I saw.

In the end I learned that in USA if someone gets killed abroad its news filler and if it`s an American then its a national tragedy.

Pain in the ass.
