What's a good / safe tempurature for a computer CPU and motherboard?

My cpu averages around 50 - 55 C and my mainboard at 35 - 40 C. Is this a normal tempurature or should i look into more cooling options? I'm looking into water cooling but don't know if it's really necessary. I have a Pentium4 @ 3.06MHz cpu on an Asus motherboard btw. Any nfo appreciated thanks.

No it's not normal. For an AMD it's normal but not a P4.

A new P4 should be running above 44° - 48°. Something
is wrong with the cooling. Your CPU's fan RPMs should be
around 5400+. You may have too much dust build up on
the leading edge of the fan, you have to clean it.

If you have money you should look into a Prometeia cooling
system. "Slice-of-ice" the inner circle guys are calling it. It's
basically a small refrigeration unit and you can run a P4 at
4°...yes 4° - 8°. Couple that with a high multiplier and you
can run that puppy at close to 4GHz and about 14°.

Just the speed from a CPU running at 4° is something awesome
to see in action. "Click-boom" it's sometimes called.
