Finding a Programmer
What is the best way to find a programmer who lives in your area and is unemployed? This team of programmers I am currently am using are two months behind their deadline and have not returned my ICQ in 3 days.
I am a firm believer in deadlines and this is really pissing me off. The good thing about this is, they only live 2 hours away here in North Carolina. Before I searched the net I wanted to ask GFY. I really am only looking for local people so I can personally explain to them what the fuck I want done. |

Some programming meets it's deadline, if it is well hahahahahahahahaed what is going to be done and you dont bug the programmers until what you agreed to is done.
unfortunately nobody understands this, i spend more time on aim and icq talking about what needs to be done rather than doing it because i find people dont really know what they want until its too late. i plan on writing some articles that will be published in klixx very soon here on understanding and working with your programmer(s). also on finding a programming staff that works and how programmers work. if they are two months behind, there is a reason. it is probably due to the way they are treated or the money you are paying them is far less than other people are paying them. try sending them an email as programmers are busy and do not answer messaging services but do much better with email at their leisure. as for finding somebody local, if you cannot describe what you want in text, it will never get done the way you want it because that means that you dont really know what you want and you prefer to verbally brainstorm (which doesnt bode well with programmers). the only programmers you are going to find in NC are overpriced ex-dotcommers, and htey all have jobs because the only reason they are there is because they moved there.

Software development ONLY misses its deadlines when the programming team is absolutely INCOMPETENT. The most crucial step in development happens before a computer is even powered up; that is, the team's leader MUST figure out EXACTLY what the customer wants.
This process SHOULD take longer than you think it will (as the customer). It's a sign of competence. Then, when new stuff is added to the specification, as happens inevitably, the deadline can be pushed back. "Software always misses deadlines" is NOT true, it's just that good, competent programmers -- capable of accurately assessing time/money requirements -- are difficult to find. Especially on the web: "I knoe teh PHP" does not mean "I am a competent programmer." It usually means "I can show teh today's date" or "I can make teh feedback form." Your programmer should push you to the point of INSANITY with his seemingly inane questions about the task at hand. Programmers who DO NOT do this are only setting you up for bad news in the future. |
